80gr Nosler competition.223

Hi guys.

Thought I would have a change of bullet.

I have a 1-8 twist 26in barrel.

Just bought new Lapua brass and 80gr Nosler custom competition bullets.

Have anyone used these?

I have some N140 powder to try with them.

I plan on a net search but I’m sure I noticed the OAL was longer with these bullets.

Any help on these will be good.

Thanks

They're similar to the Sierra 80 SMK, and therefore aren't a magazine length bullet (ie 2.260" OAL)

You'll have to seat them out but N140 is a good powder

Somewhere between 24 and 24.5gn will do the trick

Experience with the 80 SMK tells me that up to 24.5 is just fine

Your mileage may vary though

With a Wylde chamber you're probably looking at a OAL of around 2.465" or so....but not everyone's "Wylde" is the same

  • 2 weeks later...

N-140 powder

got good results at 21.8gr

Also at 22.7gr

possible pulked shot on the 23gr

quite low powder charge is tge 21.8

(23gr) says max load although I didn’t see pressure signs.

Think I will load up 6 of each

do 3 shot groups. One with V3 chrono on to see what velocities I’m getting.
