Rem 700 Varmint

Recommended Posts

I've decided on my next rifle, and I'm going for factory Rem700, Varmint barrel, in .243 caliber.

I'm looking for advice on stocking it. The .243 caliber only has two stocking options from the factory, so I now feel that I have two choices:-

1) Standard Laminated stock, have it bedded.

2) Standard synthetic stock (Which looks and feels a bit naff), swap it for a Wild Dog varmint stock and have it bedded.

The second option will be about £150 more than the first.

What would you do? Is the Wild Dog stock worth the money?

I fitted the stock myself, the fit is so good the action just dropped straight in. The stocks already have pillars for pillar bedding as standard, I have not got round to Devcon bedding it yet as it shoots just fine.

Cheers

Hi Tikka,

All short action Remington stocks are interchangeable.

I swapped the stock from my VLS for a composite PSS stock which has an integral bedding block and is made for Remington by HS precision.

You could swap into a VS or a VSSF stock which are basically the same but IMO not as ergonomic.

Have a word with Roger at SYSS when i spoke to him a couple of months ago he had several take off stocks in both PSS and VS configuration.

Ian.
