Lashendei
I have had a Remington 700 5R in storage for some time. There seem to have been big temperature variations where the gun was kept but all appears well except for the rear face of the cocking piece, where very light surface rust has taken hold (it's a dark oxblood colour, not orange). The metal surface is milled with a grain and I'd like to reverse all the corrosion but I really don't want to use anything abrasive on a rifle. Any suggestions about how to treat the rust? bradders
Fine grade steel wool and a light oil
Moorlander
Small stainless steel brush with oil worked for me , just brush with the grain.
Lashendei
Sounds good, thank you. Oil rather than WD40?
