Accuracy International Tactical moderator

After a long wait I finally got my AI Tactical moderator from Sporting Services.

Very  disappointed to find that it is aluminium and not steel.

I don’t trust an alloy moderator for a 338LM but maybe that’s just me.

Does anyone have first hand experience about the life time of these moderators?

It will go on my AXMC 338.

It will last longer than the barrel I would reckon. Yes, they have a finite life, but I've not seen one worn out yet.

I've just bought a s/h one and stripped it down to paint it. It has a one piece baffle, and its very stoutly made indeed.

A very good mod on the .338, and you usually get the same POI , on , or off.

I guess I shouldn’t worry about it and just see how long it lasts.

It is rather light and compact for a 338 can and I like the idea about it not affecting the POI.

Performance is everything though, so I’m looking forward to testing it.

Do I need some spare O-rings?

Make sure the one thats in there is greased, and you shouldn't have a problem.

Buy some spare o rings from any auto shop, same thing...we burn them out on 338s after a couple hundred rounds , we also see about 0.6 mils of a repeatable shift vertically in POI

I did a test this weekend.

Had to dial 0.3 mils up.

The TAB Gear cover dindn’t last long though.

I tightened it as firmly as I could but after 20 rounds it flew 30 meters downrange and was completely destroyed.

Have you considered a titanium suppressor for your AI?  They are available here: https://www.oceaniadefence.co.uk/product-page/accuracy-international-338-lapua-magnum

I developed these and they will work for the (accurate) life of your barrel.  Hearing safe at the ear and light weight.

I will consider the OD when I have worn out the AI suppressor.
