PVD / DLC action & bolt treatments

Recommended Posts

I'm interest to hear from anyone who's had their rifle action and bolt PVD treated.

I'm specifically interested in the  PVD DLC or Chromium Nitride treatment (not to be condfused with Salt Bath Nitriding) as opposed to the other PVD treatments, such as TiN.

Any tips who the best applicators are would be great.

thanks

Got a PVD action coming on a build, but came from Borden that way. The legal issues around Rfd status and the critical temperatures (which vary by the metallurgy of the steel used) defeated my attempts to get an ‘aftermarket’ treatment done. Found plenty of people that do it, but not reds / small batches.

Get in touch with Paddy Dane, he does a lot with DLC.

Treedave - thanks for that.

Yeah I know more and more manufacturers now offer PVD or Melonite/Tufftride treatments now.

Interesting you note the temperatures, as I was told by Defiance that as long as it's under 900 degrees F, then good to go. The PVD/DLC treatments I've seen are generally around 800 degrees F, so I can only assume ok. But obviously I'd need specialist guidance on that.

Ill get in touch with Paddy Dane as you suggest. Is he on this forum?

Im also aware DCR rifles have used the TiN PVD on their bolts.

Thanks again.
