Metal to Metal Glue / Adhesive recommendations please

Copperjacket

Recommended Posts

Good afternoon.

I have an older pcp rifle where the trigger block mounts are a pair of flanges which protrude at each end of the block. 1 of these is broken around the mounting hole. I have the broken bit and would like to re-attach it.

The block appears to be of a non-ferrous alloy.

What type of glue would work please? J-B Weld or Quick Steel or is there a more specialist glue that would be better?

Many thanks

What about Araldite?

They have some high strength versions that can be further improved on by applying heat, and it’s Araldite they used to build the Mosquito Bomber in WW2 and glue the Lamborghini Aventador together

There are several good glues that would work, epoxies of the "Araldite" type and cyanoacrylates ("superglue") being among the better adhesives. The keys to a successful bond are:

  • Make sure the mating surfaces ( A and B ) are scrupulously clean. Degrease them well - an alcohol based solvent is good.
  • Use the minimum amount of adhesive possible. You want the adhesive molecule to have one end attached to part A and its other end attached to part B. A thick glue layer means part A is attached to an adhesive molecule, which is attached to an adhesive molecule, which is attached to an adhesive molecule...... and eventually to Part B. Not so good...
