Re-Pete
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/100g-x-Approx-2mm-Size-11-0-Glass-Seed-Beads-Jewellery-Beading-PICK-COLOUR/360735433745?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=630307005315&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 IMHO better "feel" than rice, and completely inert. For SEB and Protektor bags, approx 250gms needed per ear. Would be good for the whole bag, but a bit pricey, so I'm sticking with sand for the body. Hobbit
Hi - very helpful - I did a bit of digging based on your idea came up with this https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B014R79H0U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 it is about half the price factoring postage and fills the bag really well My proter rear bag took just over a kilo to fill so now it is 1.8kg which is solid without being a pain and the filling is totally inert as you say. There is a technique to filling the bag properly however - it involves an appropriately sized funnel and a chop stick!
Re-Pete
That's what I was looking at to start.......I couldn't find the actual size of the individual pellets (wanted 1-2mm), so went for glass. Works really well, as does the plastic no doubt. RePete
mole-e30
Just a word of caution, make sure if shooting in a comp that the rules allow for non-sand filling of bags. I know that in benchrest the rules state Sand Filled bags only. It would be a horror to fall foul of the rules and ruin your shoot.

deadcenter
If anyone would like some of the polypropylene beads, please let me know. £6.50 per Kg inc mainland postage. It's what I use in my bags.
