Recommended Posts

Hi guys ,

Just thought i would start up a thread with pictures of our varminting rifles / calibers / load combinations .........

Heres mine...........................................

DSCF1070.jpgDSCF1071.jpg

Shes a Sako 75 Varmint that was originally a 6PPC USA , i then sent her off to Callum Ferguson to re-barrel her with a 22 inch Krieger barrel / chambered for 6PPC with a 270 neck.....

I am using Lapua 220 russian brass ( neck turned and fully prepped ) / Federal 205 match primers / 29.5 grains of Viht N133 and the 58 V-max seated to kiss the lands!!!

Scope is a Leupold MK4 6.5-20 - 50 with illuminated recticle..............

Its definitely a keep forever rifle!!!

Shall look forward to hear what you other guys use......... :D:P

All the best....................

RAY..................................... :D;)

My varminting rig is an RPA Interceptor in 6mmBR.

DSCF0655.jpg

She has a 24" Lother walther 1 in 8 twist barrel.

On top is a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 scope with NP-2DD reticule in Leupold QRW rings on an RPA 20MOA base.

I have also fitted an ACI inclinometer and spirit level due to the terrain I shoot over.

My pet load is an 87 Vmax and 30gns Vit N135 touched off with a Federal gold match primer.

Sadly my barrel now after 4500 rounds in the 5 years I've had her is badly firecracked( although she still shoots sweet) and will be replaced in November with a new 28" Krieger 1 in 8 twist barrel.

Cheers

Dave

Good idea Ray

Here's my main foxing setup

Tikka 595, Mcmillan Sako Varmint stock, Border 1-8 twist, 22-250AI, Leup 6.5 - 20 x 50 LRT, use 75g A-max only - still shoots sub .5 MOA after 5 hard years..

Here is my main workhorse, perhaps one of the mods can get the pic to display properly, if not just click on it. It is resting on my rear rest of the time !!

6mmPPC USA, 0.270 Neck, PRS Borden action, non ejector, Shilen barrel, Jewell trigger set at 6oz in a McClassic stock. T8 moddy and a Swaro 6x24x50 PVS scope with light plex reticule. A pretty much bog standard PRS rifle at the time. Load is 29.5gr N133, 2 thou off the lands with Fed 205 match primers, moves 68gr Barts at 3385 fps, 65gr VMax a shade faster. These three were taken with Vmaxs lamping single handed in less than a minute, never done that before or since.

Had her about 4 years now, about 600 rounds through, not quite as good as when new but it still shoots better than I can.

Great Idea Ray it will be great to see what the lads have in the cabinets. ;)

This is my two main Varminting guns , the top one is a Tikka 558/Border 1/10 in 243 ,had this rebarrelled by Jim Young ( NorthAyeshire) after I shot the first tube out ,its the one that I use most for night work , it has a Doctor 8x56 Illuminated dot ret  and I shoot 58grn vamx with 43grns of Vit140 through it .

Old Charlie dont like them :D its done about 2800rnds and is shooting better than ever and like Rays PPC its one thats there for Life :P

10092008211.jpg

The lower rifle is my daytime long gun ,its a Tikka 590 ,originaly a 22/250 but had it rebarelled in 6MMBR BY DASHERMAN , I love this round, would use it at night but the scope is a 6.5-20x50 Leupold with a Target dot ret is to fine ,It shoots 87grn Vax with 30grns of Vit135 behind it ,

On the front of them I use Reflex Mods

Cheers Andy

33gn N135, Rem 7.5, 65gn VMax, 1.770 COAL

anything that passes this rifle's barrel struggles to print anything over .5 inch... It may be ugly, but it's a keeper!!

Best wishes,
