Tikka M590 .223 - FTR

Recommended Posts

I sent this one to Scotland on Tuesday for a forum member.

The brief was to build a rifle capable of holding its own in FTR but that also looked good at a sensible price, I think we achieved this very well. The spec is as follows;

Tikka M590.

Sassen 8 twist in .223 Remington and throated specifically for Berger 80.5gr BT, 11 degree target crown

Metalwork is titanium blue cerakote with an armour black bolt.

The stock is a standard wood Tikka varmint which has been painted black then a soft touch satin clear coat added.

Tier One 20 MOA rail.

Anschutz rail

I also received a target from the barrel break in this afternoon which shows promise, a full OCW test is planned for tomorrow.

Good work Al, you seem to be doing it right

2 points though

1) Not sure about the colour

2) not sure about the term ' the brief"......all sounds a bit familiar, and also a bit Mission Impossible or Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Well...my wife elected to have that colour; after all it's her rifle, and she loves it. The fit and finish of the rifle is excellent. Throughout the project, I was always worried about the cost saving of using the original walnut stock; however, the paint and clear coat finish does the give the stock a 'soft touch' and tactile feel whilst retaining the rigidity of the original wood.

As for the 'brief', the aim was to have a rifle capable of holding an F class 0.5MOA V bull (ICFRA Target) out to 600yds for club level FTR competition - without costing a fortune.

It's early days, but from what we have seen so far, it looks like the rifle will be capable of exactly that...many thanks to Big Al.
