20 vartarg turbo

Recommended Posts

Speak to Steve Kershaw, he's built himself a 20 Vartarg (not turbo) and absolutely loves it. He's shot all sorts with it at some decent distances....really accurate calibre and cheap to feed !

Regards, Rob.

I would question if it is worth the hassle Kev when you could build a 20 Practical or 204 Ruger and have a lot less hassle with brass and dies.

There is no evidence to suggest the 20VTT offers anything the other two cases dont other than more difficult reloading. Ive shot/built quite a few different 20s and to be honest the 20VTT is regarded in the US as not being one of Todd Kindlers better creations.

Essentially you have three main case groups when it comes to shooting the 39/40gr bullets from a 10 twist at these approx speeds;

20 Vartarg - 3400fps

20 Tac/Prac/Ruger - 3650fps

20PPC/BR - 4000fps

Personally I think 20 Practical is the way to go if your wanting a nice 20 cal with decent barrel life, good performance and great accuracy or if you fancy added splat factor or reaching out with the 55gr Bergers then 20BR, the rest are just similar noise.

22-222/20 VTT

Check out the above post (OP Si Snipe on this forum Aug 25 2014).

Performance-well,velocity anyhow- in this general 20 class-pretty well correlates with case capacity-20BR,20 PPC,204R,Tac/Prac 20; Vartags(+T) and for the top erformers,very little in it (50-75 fps with 40g,which is barely discernible 'in the field',given clicking up anyhow. Brass/convenience/ factory ammo/naked but honest 'just fancy it' come into play.
