Start seating at 10 thou off lands. Powder charges show a maximum at around 26.5 grains always start low and work up. as these predictions are for an estimated seating depth yours will vary and if deeper can push pressures rapidly. ejg223
Thanks Dave, perfect! I'll measure my chamber first. 10 thou thats 0.254mm right? I made a little tool to measure seating depth and was astonished how much factory ammo varies. Sako 55gr sp from one box was up to 0.5mm!!! I was always worried if my barrel (1/12) stabilises a 55gr at longer range say 300yds. At 100 she would group 1/4-1/2" but over 250 i had problems hitting consistantly. Never had a chance to try it on paper at that range. We don't have any ranges in our area over 100yds, so testing is always a bit awkward. Learning to load will turn out to be the easy bit, learning to shoot straight another matter. edi
6mmBR
Glad to help, by the way a 12 twist will stabalise up to 60 grains. Cheers dave
ejg223
Hi Dave, had a go, 25gr h335 with the 52 amax. COL was at the max 54,70 and if my measurement was half ok it would have still been 0.50 from the lands 20thou. The lands seemed to feed in, so the measuring was a bit more tricky. I stayed on the safe side. All heads were seated with 0.03mm max difference. Which i thought was great compared to factory loads. 4shot group, pulled the second shot a bit. Damn wine last night. Wasn't too bad for the first time loading, ever. Thanks again, edi
ejg223
Managed to get out yesterday eve and try the new reloads. One fox at 220 yds quartering away from me nice smack. Second one was moving at a fast trott and wouldn't stop at a whistle, hit him a bit far back at around 240. He went into cover but came out again and i could get a good shot. Pity I couldn't retrieve cause the valley was very tough to cross. We keep the fox shooting quiet on our club lands, some farmers belong to the huntsmen.. Very bad photo over the valley it was after 10 and phone camera.
6mmBR
Looks like an excellent result there. Its great when you hit on an accurate load like that so quickly. Glad I was of help. Cheers Dave
ejg223
rather stupid and lucky.... This rifle has produced nice groups with factory ammo too, just not all the time this group was 55gr SP Sako. I just don't have a lot of faith at long ranges. Dave you're not off the hook yet, next is 308... Thanks edi
