.308 AR

Recommended Posts

Finished this beauty this week. As I've now managed to [ finally ] source all the parts, this will become a production rifle , in this format, once proofing and testing are complete.

The upper and lower are a matched pair from Cross machine. Very well made and has the nice touch of a tiny adjuster in the lower, to remove any slop between the two.

Machined to take my side charging conversion and ceracoated in Armour black.

The barrel is a 20" Sassen , helically fluted, and fitted with a 3 port brake. Thread is 18mm x 1.

Paint is armour black and Magpul FDE.

The trigger is a Geisselle.

Stock is a Magpul UBR and a magpul grip.

The fore end is a Midwest industries model, with all the usual fittings.

Surprisingly enough, this rifle weighs little more than a standard AR15.

Once I have tested the platform to my content, it will be available in .308 , 6.5 Creedmoor , and possibly .260 rem.

Looks really good. One of these in 6.5CM or maybe 6CM could be in my future.

How is the extraction of a fired case on these? Do you have to load them down much so that this isn't an issue?

What do these weigh, 10 - 11 lbs?

Cheers.

Its at proof, so I haven't fired it yet.

.308,s usually have to have the load tweaked a little.

CM works and extracts nicely.

I also have a 6CM reamer on its way.

It weighs around the same as a bull barrelled AR15.

I have to say that the extraction issues on these big boys is mostly a myth, and when it has on occasion cropped up can be mostly blamed on poor quality brass.

There were originally 25 AR10s brought in and sold by SGC.

I've known most of these rifles and that are pretty much faultless, except that in there early days there was an abundance of 7.62 RG.....and that caused a few issues.

But now that is more or less unavailable the problem has gone away.

I picked this back up from the proof house yesterday.

Rushing round last thing, Trev and I , nipped town to a friends wood where you can just get a 100 yard shot , off the floor, inside a very dark wood.
Didn't have a good shooting position at all, but we were basically testing it for extraction.
First group is on the left, then the second group showed it tightening.

We put around 40 rounds down it and it fed and extracted perfectly, and these were max loads with 167 grain bullets.
It also shoots GGG well.
I can't wait to get it on a bench with a bean bag, and test iy properly, because I think this load will one hole.
