LDC1982
I'm considering buying an AI AT .308 folding stock. For transport on a motor bike I would be removing the barrel. With this in mind should I purchase a set of headspace gauges to check before firing after re-assembly? If so can anyone point me in the direction for some gauges? cheers Liam
ds1
Sporting Services sell them for about 30 quid.....they also sell Ai certified ones for a few hundred quid, they will both work the same. Ps make sure you seat them under the extractor.
Danpd
You would be wasting your money in my opinion. As long as the mating surfaces are clean and you do it up hand tight before tightening the quicklok you'll be fine.
marty
For your purpose a new unfired Lapua case would suffice.
baldie
A cartridge case will tell you precisely nothing. The barrel will have been headspaced by the factory before sale. As Paddy says, make sure the threads are clean and grease free, also the barrel face. make sure when the barrel is screwed in, it comes to a dead stop. No need to swing on it....just a nice clean "stop". The barrel will be long dead before the headspace needs checking, and then its being checked for wear in the breech ring, not the barrel chamber.
