Swarovski1
Sounds like you spent a small fortune, I do fancy that calibre, I would like to see some longrange targets posted, what bullets are you using, what fps are you getting
walkabout
Hi Swarovski1 I did 10 different loads ranging from 57.0 gn of RS70 to 60 gn. All shot over a Magnetospeed in 8 degree C with the 28" barrel. 57.0 average 2803 SD15.3 ES 43 59.0 average 2910 SD 10, ES 4.2 59.9 average 2988 SD 8, ES 22 Load: New Norma 7mm cases CCI BR2 primers Berger 180gn Hybrid bullets Reload Swiss 70 coal 2.920" I will upload targets, but a few of the 5 shot groups under .5moa But early days as Barrel is just settling in. John MH
Is it a HME calibre?
walkabout
John Its not a HME, if you keep the loads sensible. Of the 10 loads I tested the 28" at 59 grains made it HME, the 24" did not. I think looking at the groups and data I will load the 28" to be under HME, around 4200 joule. And hopefully the same load will be good in the 24" barrel accuracy wise, and be way under. Mark

Swarovski1
Hme for the 180 grainer is 2882fps so your very consistant 59gr load in your 28 incher will take you over but only just, whats the 180gr hybrids availability like at the mo, what fps did you get from 24 incher on 59grs, I would prefer a 26 incher so its inbetween as its my stalker varminter and my 1000yd gun too
rutland12
Hi Mark This looks very good. I have used this calibre in a 32 inch Benchmark for the past 3 seasons in open f class. I too use RS 70. Just be aware that this powder is temp sensitive to a point where I have to back it off over a grain when it warms up from 10 to 20 ° Tony
hunter686
Awsum! Iv decided the 7mm Saum is the going to be my next build so I'm going to be watching this like a hawk. Put as much info up as you have! Good job (Y)
Swarovski1
Can you use a hme calibre in the rbl then or not john
walkabout
Swarovski1 I was getting an average of 2780fps with 57.9gn RS70 with the 24", 2870fps with 59.9 with the 24". Not much loss for 4". I had 1000 180gn Hybrids for 6 months, so dont know what the availability is like at the moment. By the way all these loads showed no pressure signs. walkabout
Swaroski1 i intend at the moment to stick to 180 hybrid for target, 180 VLD hunting for deer. Well may try the Amax, I will run them through Quickload. Mark
Swarovski1
I cant speak for the 162gr amaxs but the 140s in 6.5 cal are superb, probaly the best alround bullet ive used, had a good score with them at 1000yds last sunday, that was first time I tried them without a mod on, used a brake, I half expected them to be inaccurate but it was quite the opposite, after using the 6,5 cal 130gr vld hunting bullets and had several pass frews I wont use bergers for hunting again. I'm now having doubts about hunting vlds after having two pass throughs myself last month. Always had good results on deer with 168grns vlds out of my 7mm SAUM. Two out of twelve deer had pass throughs in the same week, a roe doe at 380m and a mature fallow buck at 200m. Both first shots missed bone and went through both lungs and out. Second shots on both deer hit bone and dropped them. It's not done much for my confidence with that set up. I might go back to my Accubond load if I can find them. goldie
How available is 7saum brass?
walkabout
goldie Depends on how you want to do it. 300 SAUM is available in Norma and Remington, and you then neck it down. I use Norma 7mm SAUM brass, had to wait for months for it to come in...but I do have 500 cases now. Mark
