Deeredriver
Same as Gunner, I recommend Neil Mckillop. He's based near Reading so not to far from you, plus he's great gun smith.

mikeroz
From what I've heard you can't go far wrong with Neil. I had fortune to visit his workshop and it was very clean & tidy. More recently I also used Mik at Dolphin Guns because I wanted a work done on a Barnard which he specialises in; I was mighty impressed and despite the 400 mile round trip from Bristol I'd most definitely use him again. I'm already planning my next pocket money spending spree! Mik has extensive barrel stocks which minimises the waiting time.
Rob1562
+1 for Steve Kershaw. I've had two rifles built by him. He's a good guy to deal with too. Regards Rob.

mikeroz
But the barrel from a good smith such as Neil or Dolphin will out perform any off the shelf rifle any day.
jcampbellsmith
But the barrel from a good smith such as Neil or Dolphin will out perform any off the shelf rifle any day. Agree. Good work with a good quality barrel is the way to go if you can afford it. Regards JCS
pork chop
Dont follow that logic myself. a rebarrel is cheaper than a new gun plus i can chose what profile length and twist i want and if its remaining the same case/cal then no waiting for a variation either, its a no brainer
srvet
Dont follow that logic myself. a rebarrel is cheaper than a new gun plus i can chose what profile length and twist i want and if its remaining the same case/cal then no waiting for a variation either, its a no brainer One of my shooting related bad decisions was to sell on a duff barrelled 22/250 rather than having it rebarreled. I ended up buying a new rifle which in the end I had rebarreled anyway. To me rebarreling is the way forward
mikeroz
Once you've had some custom work done and you appreciate the quality you rarely want anything but for future guns. At least, that's the way I feel anyway.
johnnyb0_1
Had Baldie make a 223 for me a few weeks back. Bowled over by the quality, top gun smith and knows his stuff. Have a look at the precision rifle smiths section, it's the AT Odin "Fatboy". If I were having any more work done I would go back to Baldie again, (and I will), in fact he's gonna re-barrel my other musket! Good bloke to chat with too, he'll take the time to point you in the right direction. Good luck with your choice. J.
