.204 Ruger - mod advice please

Recommended Posts

I've placed the order for the .204. Tikka T3 Super Varmint.... Now trying to decide on a mod for it. It seems I have about 6 months to make up my mind :(

I prefer reflex and calibre specific but what do you guys recommend for the .204?

I have just gone with an Aimsonic Cyclone on my .223. Frankly, I could have have the pick of five different brands.

First impressions regards the engineering are very good, ditto the balance, moderation and finish and it is calibre specific.

It was over my initial budget but (from a visual perspective) looks good on the HB.

I've been using the reflex type Swift Nightingale mod on my .204 and my .223.

I use it for pest control and rate it highly.

Although I'm not sure how it would stand up to continual range use??

They're around £150 for the cf type

Thanks Jamie,

I have the Nightingale on my .22 & .17 and i too rate them highly. The only range use the .204 will be getting is initial zero then occasional subsequent checks. I have them on Sako Quad bull barrels so they had to slightly relieve the inside of the mod to fit over the barrel. Have to check the dia. of the Super Varmint.

What weight is the swift mod and what length does it add to the barrel when fitted ?

Sharps4065

The tikka barrel will be the same dia as your quad varmint barrel.

Got that very same rifle in .204 with a 20 cal Mae mod from Julian . Very pleased with it. Where in West Sussex are you Clive.

Sunny Bognor Regis Gaz :D Although most of my vermin is done over in East Sussex with my brother in law. Still hunting for permissions over my way.

Julian, Julian....? I have a feeling I should know that RFD. Where is he? and you?

I have a wildcat p8 which I find very quiet with fast powder.

however I am looking to sell it as its to heavy for me at the end of 24 inchs with a heavy barrel already.

I think the trick is to get the cal specific baffles which makes a big difference.

would be interested to see how good these atec carbon mods are?

Maxim?, I'm using one on my 223 xbolt. Quiet and light, plus you can add extra baffles if need be. I did just that and added an extra 2, didn't really need to, but it dropped the decibels even more with minimum weight added. All In I think mine is 470g - not 100% sure on the weight. I'll weigh it tomorrow with the 4 and 6 baffles and let you know.

Good point sharps, i'm hoping my next rifle is a 260 SV, and i'll have the same issue. Although this will be a range gun mainly, so i'll have to contact Swift Precision to see if it's up to the job!

The stats (according to my digital scales) for the Swift Nightingale -

Weight 228 grams

Length 180.5cm

The length of the mod that goes over the barrel,(including threads) is 80mm

The Reflex opening is 22mm

I forgot to measure the width, but give or take it's 50mm
