Greenbear
a very similar question to wirviz's thread I have a Tikka T3 in 300 win mag, I adore the rifle and having looked at other threads can I have this rifle rebarreled in either .308 or 6.5x55. if so how do I go about it (I am not a gunsmith) and how much, or is it easier for me to sell it complete and re purchase a new one? Cheers GB
stag1933
Sell it as it is and start again. I bought an immaculate T3 Hunter .243 which had fired less than 200 factory cartridges from new complete with a new Optiloc base unit for £475 at our local gun shop. The owner had put it in as a part exchange for a .308 T3 as he has access to some large Reds now and the owner would not let him shoot them with the .243 T3. If you are a re-loader you will find a greater choice of easily obtained ingredients for the .308 than for the 6.5 mm. HWH.
Ratwhiskers
Greenbear The bolt face being for a "Mag" case won't fit the .308 and maybe not the 6.5x55 (not sure on this one) I would think Stag's idea would be better at this time. But the T3 can make for a nice enough rebarrel.....
Ronin
Keep it and rebarrel to 7mm WSM or 300 WSM.? Buy another in
Vermincinerator
Greenbear I would hazard a guess that the cost involved in bushing the bolt face to accept the 6.5x55 case rim would cost as much or more then the re-barrelling. For that price you could buy a new T3 in the calibre of choice. Ian.
