gazzar15
What is the consensus on the Sako 591 action ??? Is it a quality piece of kit? What aftermarket synthetic stocks are available? Will it take a mag conversion?? Opinions gratefully accepted

Tom
Mcmillan first of all , HS -Precision has one for the bigger action L61. / 691 , perhaps they do one for other actions as well. Also I know people that has been using stocks made for Howa action "Gold Bear# and also then some Weatherby . No tips for DBM
ejg223
I saw a few pictures of the underside of a Sako 591, that one didn't seem to have any recoil lug arrangement. So totally different to the older L579. I am supposed to convert one of our stocks to fit this 591 but advised the owner to fit a remmy style recoil lug while he gets the rifle fitted with a custom barrel. Generally it is possible to fit almost any rifle into a composite stock. Two options, either buy a blank (no inlet) or rebuild an existing inletted stock. Converting can get complicated as one sometimes needs to get mechanical strength back in, meaning there's more to it than just bedding. Howa short action stock could be a fairly close fit. Mag conversion should be possible, I recently fitted a Roedale Howa AI mag system to a L579. edi
Ronin
The 591 uses a "post" extending from the base of the action, (which forms the forward action thread hole) This on the original models uses a piece of formed aluminium as a recoil lug. In profile is similar to an angular S shape. I usually replace this with a machined stainless or aluminum disc thats permanently bonded into the stock at the bedding stage....... Works for me Edi

We were also thinking of a larger disk with the a male threaded end going into the action and a female action screw thread on the other side. Anyway it'll be up to Fergal White who is doing the rebarrel. Ronin, any chance yet of posting those flush cups? Stock is out the mould today. thanks edi
