From my experience I found if you can get them running at 2850fps that works really well however you will be starting to push the pressure envelope at this speed so caution in development

My first thought when seeing the charges of N140 is that the first is borderline excessive at best and the second could be potentially dangerous if you know of other people shooting these loads then they may well have completely different chambers that allow different bullet build lengths etc that allow such charges just my thoughts and I have shot 168gr with 40gr N140 in my rifle and that was pushing the max for that set up

There's always the chance that the lads bullet was impacting short and ricochetting over the top of the target frame making it look like the shooter was shooting high Not always easy in the butts to work out what's happening having experienced it first hand both as a marker in the butts at 300-600yds and a sentry within sight of the butts on ranges I have seen bullets skipping off the top of the mantlet and hitting the sand high indicating a high shot comms from firing point to marker and the use of a spotter can often resolve the problem I've Never shot at bisley so cannot comment about their range, but marked butts at various ranges with shooting upto 1200 yds

Chaz Just look on the bay, there are plenty to choose from, just pick the size and price and away you go Mine has six large trays and can dry far more than I can tumble in one go but if I tumble various calibers I can then batch a caliber to a tray

nicklock I think you will find that site works that way to try and weed out the trolls etc

I've had more meat damage from a 150BT than 165 soft nose in 308 It's more about the bullet design than the bullet weight and also placement of shot A 22-250 with BT bullets can be more destructive because they're more explosive due to speed Many factors for potential damage not just caliber Personally don't see a problem with 338 as a hunting round

Baldie Well done, I wasn't sure about mentioning the 4" group of the BDS myself when i first posted but it has to be taken into consideration If at a 100yds the group is between 2-4" the group at 200yds will therefore be between 4-8" combine this with all the other factors calculated into margin of errors then a miss at 200yds can be common If the grouping achieved at 100yds is not at or below 1" then I would suggest a slightly lighter bullet that groups better as it is shot placement rather than bullet weight or caliber that is the crittical factor in a clean humane cull of any animal Ian

Dwight The bullet will not be 'running out of steam ' at that range, at a guess its ballistics should be good to drop a deer out to at least 400yds It is most likely that your friend is not aware of the amount of drop his round takes on at that distance and therefore not aiming high enough OR is unaware of the amount of effect wind is having as the distances increase and again not making enough allowances the best thig to do is to get some range time somewhere and learn how the rifle bullet combo works on targets before he engages any more live targets at those ranges Ian
