    Air rifle to FAC power?

Gave up and swapped it for an FAC version. Pete

    Air rifle to FAC power?

It doesn't have a regulator (the MK1 did) it uses the slingshot system. Air Rangers were also sold in 60 and 80fpe versions so I think it'll manage 30fpe OK. I have ordered a heavier slingshot hammer, might need another spring too. Pete

    Air rifle to FAC power?

I bought the gun on gun trader. There was an old MK1 FAC for similar money, but that's an OLD gun. There was another I went to look at, only to be told "we sold that ages ago". Despite the fact I'd enquired about it that morning before traveling! Pete

    Air rifle to FAC power?

If I could access that link, I'd be able to comment. Seriously, I've looked at LOADS of guns for sale, this was the best deal I could find. There are a few "cheaper" offerings, most of them have been of a lower quality, or too far away to examine personally. Pete

    Air rifle to FAC power?

OK, I know I could have just bought an FAC version, but couldn't find an affordable one. (Despite the myth that they're cheaper). I've bought a Daystate Air Ranger sub 12fpe with the intention of using it in my spare FAC slot. It's a tidy gun, with the slingshot hammer system. From what I've seen and read the FAC versions use much heavier hammers and springs. Has anyone any experience of actually doing this, or can advise on hammer and carrier dimensions. Alternatively, are there any gunsmiths on here who could do the job economically? Pete

    Behind the license revocation

No I'm still here Bob. The HMR is good, but still not had a fox, they seem to have dispersed. Not so happy with the CZ 452 22lr, I hate the trigger. Not been out since the ban, I suspect the farmer thinks I should ignore it 😞 Pete

Chris Packham on radio 4 last week. He tells about his exploits in his school days, "bird nesting" and TAKING A KESTREL from the nest. Then he gets all upset about the kestrels death. A man driven by his own guilt. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07j4qx6

New to firearms, have a question.

I've not managed to be close enough for a confident shot. One was about 80 yards away one night last week, but as soon as I tried to call it closer, it turned and ran. I'm going again tonight, hopefully I'll get one in closer. Pete

Hi Boydy47, you've just opened another can of worms 😉 I've checked my license, I have .22RF rifle and just ".22" for ammunition lol So, according to that I could purchase .223 ammo, but not shoot it? Anyway, I've got another point that's making me think. The census of opinion says that the HMR is just about OK for fox at close range (100yds or less). The .22LR however is not. What about the .22LR shooting "Stingers", or other high velocity rounds. Looking at the figures, the power almost doubles from a subsonic at around 100fpe, and a Velocitor at almost 180fpe My guess is that if a fox was close (say 50yds) changing from a sub, to a high velocity round would be OK? (not ideal, but OK) Pete

Blimey, it's probably best I leave it as it is. Nothing worse than "grey areas" in the law. Pete

I have a lathe, I don't see an issue. Pete

Bought a CZ 452 .22lr from a local RFD. It's 20 years old, but in excellent condition. It came with a mod, and a slightly tatty 3-9x42 scope. £149! It shoots fine, but it's long barrel, plus the length of the mod, makes it look like a musket 😉 So I'm going to shorten the barrel to about 15 inches, and swap the scope. Hoping to try for a fox with the hmr one evening next week. I'm getting there slowly. Pete

Well it works 🙂 Mounted my TAC Vector Sentinel 4-16x50 scope on the HMR, and went to the farm to zero it. All in all I'm well happy, started close and ended with zero set to 100 yards. Thought I might get at least a crow after setting it up, but that crack it makes, after 30 rounds of target time, seemed to have scared everything away or into hiding 😉 Now looking for a cheap 22LR, so I can shoot the close range stuff without terrifying everything else. Thanks everyone for your ideas. Pete

Bought a new "old stock" Savage Arms 17hmr, stainless carbine, in a lovely laminate thumbhole stock. £395, so I'm well happy for now. Picked up a SAK mod for £39, just need to mount a scope and have a bash. Pete
