  1. I’m not a great lover of shows and only go to the CMM show in October as I feel I should as a contributor and also to see the boys in the Z1OC. Sometimes I get roped into sticking a bike in the club stand. on the twentieth I’ll be playing with my No4 and .223 at Bulford with the fine lads at Wessex. DVLA have finally given in and allowed me historic status on The Beast (Z1300) so she’ll be getting plenty of outings this summer You going to the October show?
  2. HAving watched a lot of that, the stand out Achilles heel seems to be having to input a shed load of data with a small number of buttons and the screen is tiny considering how much data one is looking to view. Is the video representative or can you bang majority of the data in on a tablet, PC or phone in advance? The video made it look far from user friendly to me? For so much money I would want something pretty close to perfection. The AB iPhone app gets quite a slagging in the APP Store, but on the face of it tethering a weather station to what is effectively a powerful mobile computer seems the obvious way to go?
  3. I've been told that the Applied Ballistics data is the canine genitalia and the Kestrel 5700 Elite is the way to go, but knocking on the door of seven hundred beer tokens, are they really THAT much better than a tenners worth of Strelok Pro app that has been part of my iPhone ever since I started shooting? I'm also deciding whether to buy a copy of QuickLoad, but again it's far from free with a gallon of four star. What do we think? Are these snake oil to part the gullible from their hard earned or actually money well spent?
  4. That's a relief 😃 I made up a board of 1/2" ply to which I bonded a sheet of 1/4" rubber. Works really well with the Creedmoor. I also have a bag, but mine is filled with garnet I scounged from a mate who does media blasting. It's super fine so will find any leak however small, but is very heavy. My FTR bipod was an indulgence when it first came out and whilst it was a big financial hit has never disappointed when being used. I have made a bevel drive for it to use when I'm using a bipod extended, but the nylon screws that grip the hand wheel tend to make it fall off with a heavy recoiling rifle. It needs a bit more development but it does make adjusting the bipod much easier, without breaking position.
  5. I’m trying to achieve the best bipod/rear bag combo for shooting my new AXMC .338. Currently I’m using a super heavy rear bag and my old faithful tier one FTR bipod. I am concern the heavy .338 loads are a bit much for the FTR bipod? I’ve been considering an AccuTac HD50 with an extender and the fortis micro adjustable rear, but have been put off by it being in plastic. Am I being a bit pessimistic, but it seems a lot of money if it’s not going to last. I’ve also been looking at an adjustable bag rider, but the adjuster is ‘masked’ by the ears of my bag. i’ve been agonising over methods of fine adjustment to take my own inabilities out of the equation to achieve accurate long range shots! A small amount of error is a big error at a mile 🤣
  6. Very interesting. Fingers crossed that mine likes them as I have bought a good stock of 285 ELDs. The Barrett didn’t like ‘em either 😢
  7. As I didn't get on with my Barrett I'm part exing it out for an AI AXMC also in .338 Lap Mag. 27" 1 in 9.35 barrel I found N570 a tad slow so have invested in some RS76. I have a shed load of Hornady 285gr ELD-Ms. Barrel is 27" 1 in 9.35 twist and I'm using the recommended Lapua cases QuickLoad suggests an absolute max of 95.5grs of RS76. Anyone on here got a real life loads they have found good ? Cheers
  8. This is a fabulous scope and is often considered one of the best in it's price bracket. I had it on my 6.5 Creedmoor which I used at 1000yards and it has been lovely and clear. My only criticism is that it's second focal plane, which many prefer, but not me. It has the DLS-1 (Mrad) reticle which is lovely and clear and doesn't interfere with view I have had to upgrade my S&B PMII on my .338 lap mag for more elevation for the mile and have one expensive scope more than I need, so I'm moving the S&B to the Creedmoor and selling this scope. For full specs see Optics Whorehoue - https://www.opticswarehouse.co.uk/delta-stryker-target-ultra-ed-5-50x56-hd-sfp-lt-illuminated-zero-stop-rifle-scope There is a small blemish on the tube as can be seen in the photos, which actually looks worse in the picture than in the flesh. I haven't had it especially long, I only got the rifle at the end of last year! The bubble and rings are not included as they have moved to the new scope. £1100 including next day carriage with DPD (Optics Whorehouse currently sell these at £1689.95)
  9. I’ll have to bow to your superior knowledge in such matters Roy 🤣 I’m very pleased with it any am like the proverbial kitty on a tin roof waiting for A&S police to do my variation so I can trade the Barrett in for s nearly new AI AXMC and nail it on 😂
  10. Went to the show yesterday and got raped by Optics Whorehouse for a shiny new S&B PMII 6-36x56 HP. I haggled like a man and got a reasonable desk, though I doubt my wife would see it as the bargain that I do 😂 I looked through a lot of scopes at the show, but you can’t really tell until you use them at 1000yards on a rifle. I tried a night force ATACR but hated the reticle and the fact that changing mag turns the rear eye piece is madness particularly as it ships with flip up covers. I’ve had a Schmidt for a long time and know how good they are😃
  11. Ahh now there's the rub. I'm not going to get anything any good south of £2K, it's just how far north I can go. 🤣 The ZCO looks awesome but that probably is is slightly too far. I do like the option of high magnification and have never used anything much under 20x. After being told that 25x is plenty I have tried using my scope at 25x, but always end up cranking on more.
  12. I don't currently shoot anywhere that I can get out further than a mile. The rifle currently has 30MOA rail. I do have a 45MOA mount on the Barrett, though I did think that was a tad excessive given I also want to come back to 1000yards ?
  13. I’ve just lost the plot and thrown caution to the wind and decided to trade my Barrett 98b in for an AI AXMC with the initial barrel chambered in .338LapMag as with the Barrett. The main reason was that I have a friend with a 98B with a deep throat which needs rectifying, but unlike many rifles, it is a sphincter clenchingly expensive business and may require his gun to be sent across the Atlantic to the colonials😳. Whilst no barrels come free with a gallon of petrol, most can be exchanged for a three figure investment, not so the Yankee sniper rifle. So having bitten down on a leather strap and agreed to buy the Brit equivalent, I now realise that I could have a number of different calibres in one and therefore just invest in one super duper scope for all as it were. But here’s the rub ….. which scope to buy? Currently my best scope by a country mile is my PMII 12-50 x 56. Now more than one long range shooter tells me that big magnification is not desirable. I genuinely don’t get it. I have turned it down to 25x which is supposed to be the perfect mag, but it always ends creeping up so I can see better. I tend to find on a not massively sunny day that the very high end can lose a bit of crispness, but is perfect at say 40x, which seems eminently better than 25x. I have one second focal plane scope and definitely prefer first focal plane. As I have mentioned on here in the past I want to shoot the mile. What scope would you guys buy if you were starting from scratch?
