    New F open Gun 284

Great result with a great looking rifle.58grs of N165 must be a stiff load.am surprised you only got 2830fps on that much powder. Expected much faster.

    Huge increase in bullet prices

I bought some old stock 7mm 180gr Berger hybrids a few weeks ago at £54 per 100.since then I've had a look around and you will be lucky to get them under £70 A box.i doubt if I will buy them again at that money

Always best to have a good amount in stock.i imagine I have enough to last me next year and into the following year.
  7. I've only ever used es.sd seems to give you lower figures.how is it worked out...?
  8. For long shots across the fields I use a nylon type half cylindrical bag a fold up gazebo side awning came in and I stuffed it with bubble wrap.its firmish.waterproof and very lightweight.approx 13" x 6".it can be put on it's side if the rear of the gun needs raising.

    shehane or 284W

The only way to know for sure is to test them.162s are softer to shoot than the 180s

162gr amax over 57.5grs of N165 will an oal of 3.170 gives 2870fps from a 26 inch barrel.superb accuracy if I do my bit
  11. One of the loads my mate tested chronied 3fps over 5 shots.100yds group wasn't brill but that may of been him.338 lap mag is a great calibre.pokey to shoot but nice.
  12. That lapua 338 brass is good stuff ?
  13. Yes I imagine it was.i think I recall I had a couple of tight bolts when I fired it.
  14. A mate has a barret 98b and runs 250gr lockbases at 3000fps from the 27 inch barrel.i can't recall powder but it was around 90grs.

1 in 9 bartlein. Everything I tested in my 284 shot superbly.56.5 to 56.7grs of N165. I did try 57grs but no real gain so I run on 56.5grs now.180gr hybrids go about 2815fps. 57.5grs launches the 162gr amax about 2875fps I think.i have it written down but not at hand

I'e tried 57grs of n165 behind the 180gr hybrid.not sure my oal was 3.200 though.must of been close.i do measure the oal and record it but I go by the comparator measurement.the 180gr scenars Seat real deep.if you had it throated for the 180gr scenars the hybrid would barely sit inside the neck.some throat wear would then see the hybrids having to jump to far.they like from 15 to 25 off in the 7mms I've had.they shoot amazingly but they are bloody expensive now.

The hybrids are 15 thousanths off. The amaxs are about the same. 180gr scenars are about 10 off

I used Berger 180gr hybrids in the above post. Off the top of my head the 162gr amax load on 52.5grs of RS 60 were approaching 3000fps and extremely accurate.

You can get nearly 2900fps with rs60 from a 26 inch barrel with 52grs in my rifle.52.5grs gave 2915fps.just a tad warm though.bloody accurate on both loads.its a shame about the talk of its hard on barrels.i use n165 now at 100fps slower.there is so little gain even at 1000yds.

Dear Mr Gould Thank you for your email about the recent Home Office consultation on ‘Offensive and Dangerous Weapons’ which includes proposals to prohibit ‘.50cal and rapid fire rifles’. The Alliance will be making a full response to this consultation. It appears to us that the unexpected inclusion of these two items within a long-awaited consultation on corrosive substances and knives was in response to the Las Vegas shootings. The consultation is confused and confusing, with no clear definition as to what the Government means by ‘.50 cal’. Prohibition simply by calibre would affect a number of long established cartridges used in large game hunting rifles. If it is indeed .50BMG that is the Government’s target, then we would point out that this is a cartridge that has been around since 1921. Its ‘materiel destruction’ capability relies on the use of explosive or armour piercing projectiles which are already on S5 of the 1968 Firearms Act (as amended) and are thus not available without authority of the Secretary of State. The small number of long range target shooter who use single shot bolt-action rifles in .50BMG are very highly regulated, and there is no evidence or suggestion that they represent a risk to public safety. We are concerned that were the Government were to prohibit .50BMG then other cartridges used for long range target shooting, such as .338LM, would be at risk. So far as the MARS rifle is concerned, we understand that there are approximately 400 in the UK. They are used in certain Practical shooting disciplines, their possession and use is well regulated and again, there is no evidence of misuse.
