  1. OMG stunning! Love a Ruger No1, I have a S/S one in .45/70 - wish I had use for this one!
  2. I currently use an old fold up workbench, similar to a Black & Decker workmate with a lump of 3/4" ply screwed ontop with a cutout on the left hand side as I am right'handed - cheap and cheerful but is very stable as quite heavy.
  3. I'll take the last bag please! PM me payment details please - thanks.
  4. I know, but if you don't ask... 😄
  5. Still looking for either a Walther GSP or a nice Cooper .22rf... Must be vgc and preferably mint I know there are a couple of GSP's knocking about on various sites but I just wanted to see whether there is anything else out there please - thanks.
  6. I've tried CB longs and they grouped like a shotgun in my Sako Finnfire at 25yds - I honestly wouldn't entertain using them on live quarry. Others may have had more luck but in my experience they were shockingly bad
  7. Gents, I've been thinking about filling a spare .22lr slot I have with either one of these or a Cooper .22rf (assuming I will ever be able to find one!) Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has or had one as to what they are like. Will they be any more accurate than my Finnfire? And if anyone happens to know of a nice little Cooper .22rf gathering dust anywhere please let me know!
  8. I had a Simmons WTC 1.5-5x20 on my Marlin .444 and TBH wasn't impressed at all. I've replaced this with a cheap Minox 2-7x35 (about £135 from The Sportsman's) which IMO is leagues better - sharper, clearer glass, it's like comparing a cheap Hawke with a Schmidt & Bender!
  9. As above, an as new set (not even sure if these were ever mounted as I ended-up using Burris mounts) of Warne Maxima bases plus screws for both long and short Rem 700 actions. The number is #M902/876M & these take picatinney rings. Cost £24.30 some years ago and I'd like £16.00 posted please.
  10. I had an hmr for a while but sold it as I just couldn't get the accuracy I was after. This may have been ammo related, but every time I missed with it I never knew if it was me or the rifle. I've had a .17Rem which was good but now have a .17Fireball which is ridiculously accurate (mines a Cooper) so can heartily recommend one of those assuming you can find one. I nearly bought a Sako M78 that had been rebarreled in .17AH but it never came off. I have always fancied a .22 Hornet - plenty about and relatively cheap or you could go for a .222 but thats possibly not too dis-similar from your .22-250 but it is a lovely round and inherently accurate. Enjoy doing your research and the search for your new rifle.
  11. Thanks to you both, really helpful replies and just the sort of information I was after. The S-Tac is certainly in the running and would I'm sure be fine and hopefully better glass than my MTC. However the model you linked to above at OW is the SIII I was looking at and is a great deal and actually cheaper than the illuminated S-Tac, hence my interest in it. TBH I am after a scope for long range on my Finnfire so the SIII probably would fit the bill. Can anyone maybe tell me how the S-Tac compares to the SIII glass wise and also is either going to be the big improvement over the MTC Mamba I'm looking for? I have always been happy with the MTC's for rimfire and air rifles and as said love the multiple aim points of the SCB ret. But recently I seem to noticing some whiteout when looking anywhere close to the direction of the sun, although it may just be my wafty old eyes!
  12. Gents, I am thinking of upgrading the MTC Mamba currently on my Finnfire Range. I am looking at the Sightron SIII 6-24x50 as a possibility as I think the glass will be much better along with maybe a 4-20 x50 STac although the glass on these is supposedly not quite as good as the SIII. These are both available with an MOA reticule which is not too different to the Xmas tree SCB ret on the Mamba which I really like as it gives multiple aim point without having to dial. Is anyone using one of these on a .22rf and if so what are your opinions please? I know they are only supposed to parallax down to 40yds but are they actually usable below this range, say at 25yds? Thanks.
  13. I realise this is a fairly old thread but I recently did some ammo testing in my AMT semi auto ( which I believe has a tight 'benz' match chamber) which might be of interest. Eley subsonic HP were hopeless, jamming every round. Winchester Subsonic HP were not much better. Bizarrely RWS subsonic HP which are close to 100fps slower than both the above cycle perfectly - go figure! I can only think that the Eley and Winnie cases are maybe a tad bigger - hence the jams? I then tried CCI subsonic HP's, both RWS and Geco Semi Auto and RWS match - all cycled well, so as has been said .22rf semi auto ammo cycling really is a bit of a black art and there is no substitute for simply trying lots of different makes until you find something that works in your particular rifle.
  14. How about an AMT which is a stainless clone of a Ruger 10/22? Not many about but I think there is currently a rather nice looking one on Guntrader?
  15. Humble apologies Gunner the guy I bought the S&B from had a very similar name to you but had 3 digits on the end of Gunner -oops!
  16. Will try to put one up - you might even recognise the S&B PM2 12-50x56 thats ontop (slight overkill I know...) cos I got it from you! 😁
  17. Thats him! The load data he gave me was 18.6grns Benchmark behind a 25grn Berger Match Varmint (the ones with a hole like a child's bucket). I have yet to try anything else as these shot so well. The Vmaxes never shot well in my .17 Rem but I am looking forward to trying them in the Cooper 😀
  18. Neil (Dasherman) did some work on my Cooper after the previous owner marked the outside of the barrel badly when screwing on an overbarrel mod. He cut the barrel down a fraction to produce an invisible screw cap, recrowned it and made a picattiny rail for it. To say I was chuffed with his workmanship would be an understatement. If it were me looking for a rebarrel I wouldnt go anywhere else even if there was a humungous wait..... Years ago I bought a beautiful Sako Vixen in 222 to rebarrel to .17Rem. It is too good to mess with but have to say they are a stunning little action and would be my first choice for a donor action for .17Rem or .17FB.
  19. Yes I believe it may well have been yours - I got it from a guy in Leicester who was I think the 2nd owner - thanks for selling it to him cos I love it! It is easily THE most accurate rifle I have ever owned!
  20. Just do what I do and tell her a re-barrel is really easy and only costs £50..... 😁
  21. Great little round. I consider myself very lucky to have picked a lovely Cooper in .17FB a few years ago. Not sure of any other factory Fireball rifles other than Rem 700's out there - have you considered a rebarrel of maybe a Sako or Tikka?
  22. Gents, Am seriously considering getting one of these for use off rifle as a spotter and on rifle for pest control. However, I would also like to use it for long range daytime vermin control as a recording device to record my shooting, but have yet to see any mention on any posts of this facility. Does anyone know if it is suitable for this, what the results are likely to be like and will it possibly affect accuracy at long-ish (200yd) ranges? I look forward to hearing your opinions - thanks.
