Yeah I think that’s true mate. my hardest task of all is explaining to firearms licensing that I may need a variation to replace a part that has the same serial number and that it wont change on my licence.

Yeah mate likewise, my old spikes didn’t have it nor does the one I have recently bought have. only the lower.

I’ve spoke with NWCP about a new receiver and was told that all uppers, lowers and bolts need to be serial numbered now and proofed. Looks like this is maybe not an option now as a simple purchase of a receiver and swap parts over. If this is the case then I am thinking I can keep the lower as that is what has the serial number that is on my licence and ask a RFD to purchase a new upper that I have found on Brownells and be sent to them. I can send down my rifle and then it can be dismantled and reassembled and then off to proof. The RFD can then scrap the old upper and nothing changes on the licence. once Dave emails back I will ask about this. if anyone has any other thoughts or options, I am open to anything.

I found the clamp and have now ordered it. thanks for letting me know that’s what I needed. Wish I knew this prior as this would have saved some money and time. Need to source where I can buy an upper from now. thanks

This is the exact answer I’ve been looking for. Serial is on the lower so I was hoping this was the case. I don’t suppose you have an idea where I can find this clamp do you ? any ideas where I could buy a receiver from ? thanks craig

Well I’ve really done it this time !! I very recently bought a second hand spikes tactical ST22, AR15 style .22 semi auto. it was pretty much bog standard and I spent some decent money buying some parts from Brownells which just got delivered today. money of the bits was a new handguard and when I tried to take the old one off, it looks like I have twisted the upper receiver in the vice. I didn’t realise it wasn’t sitting square. Seems it twisted right below the dust cover area so the pin below doesn’t close when putting back together. The pin at the rear is fine though. really don’t know what my options are now.

I have noticed on some research on forums, 37.5 seems to be a node with 130’s.

Thanks all for the info on this so far. seems like Viht N140 or 150 is the way to go and likely I can use 120’s upto 130’s. didn’t realise Varget and N150 had similar burn rates. I have had great results with the Nosler 120’s BT. I only head or neck shot roe so I guess anything will suffice. thanks Craig

Correct, i remember now i did also see info on N150. How are the Scenarios on expansion ? This is predominantly a hunting rifle.

hello all, Been a while since i posted here but always watching and reading. I am looking for anyone to offer any guidance on data for 6.5x47. I used to use Varget along with 120 Nosler BT which was a great combo. I only have a hand full of these rounds left so need to get organised for new testing. for the weight of the round i am not really fussed and open to suggestions. I know they work very well with weights around the 120 mark but also ready very good accuracy with 130's. I tried Berger when i first tested and could not get them to work so really looking at Sierra or Hornady at those weights. Powder wise i have read about guys using Vit N140 but again i am open to suggestions. Thanks in advance. Craig

Hi Bruce, good to hear from you mate, long time no speak, hope all is well. ok so maybe the 600 CF allowance seems high now your the second person to mention this so this I am willing to accept if gets reduced. in terms of the second .22 I am glad to hear this and also glad to hear that appealing is well worth it if refused. I do also have authority to purchase a .243 which I had since the grant however, my 6.5 does everything so I did say that I would happy to swap out the authority for the .243 for the .22 semi which the FEO did seem to be pleased about. when all this restrictions are eased off a bit I’d love to come back up to the garage and hear your thoughts on current thermal and NV again if possible ? thanks craig

That particular FEO didn’t ask or question the 1200. It was what I put down and it got granted. i will take that onboard regarding the ammunition allowance however what about the second .22 ? What’s your opinion on that ?

No I’m not mate. I was in the past but not anymore. I wasn’t a member of any shooting club when I got my first FAC and got both bolt and semi .22 either.

Hi guys, I don’t often post rants but this one has got me a bit annoyed to say the least. my FAC is due a renewal at end of March and my FEO sent out paperwork to get this dealt with ASAP due to back logs. At the moment I have a 6.5x47 rifle and newly aquired .22LR bolt action last September. I now have my eye on a .22 semi auto and didn’t see this as an issue at all as my previous FAC I had both bolt and semi on my ticket and had these in possession. I spoke to my FEO about it and putting in a variation which from my previous experience normally had taken a week from start to finish. In my area, Aberdeen, he told me this is no longer as fast as this as they all have to go to Inverness and this may take longer than the renewal. So taking that on board I agreed that I would just put the request for the .22 semi on my renewal paperwork. then I got the questions about good reason to want another “ weapon “. Personally I hate that term and I just prefer firearm. I know it’s technically correct however, it is personal preference I suppose. So I gave my reasons with one of them, more likely the semi will be a dedicated night rig, semi is better in highly populated areas of rabbit warrens ect. These are the same Reasons I gave on my first FAC and not an issue at all. Then I get asked questions about ammunition usage and being able to justify the requirement based on ammo usage, which I had to remind 3 times that I have only aquired this Sept last year. Then I get told that he will need to look into my ammunition allowance and that it may need to be reduced. I have 600 for each 6.5 and .22. I asked why as if it was a problem it would have been picked up on the grant of this FAC. I told him that my previous FAC I had 1200 for .22 which he replied with, that’s far too much and every FEO is different with different opinions. we got talking about other things and the 6.5x47 and then the belter came out, “ is your 6.5 a centerfire ? “ 😳😳 was my face !!! it may be apparent that this FEO is new to this. If I don’t get this second .22 granted and forced to drop any ammo allowance then I will be appealing this straight away. I know it’s only a rant but any thoughts lads ? I know there shouldn’t be any issues with my second .22 but has anyone else had issues like this and being forced to drop ammunition allowances before ? craig

Bet that title got your attention lads !!! I have acquired a Sako Quad in .22lr ( bolt action just to set the record straight ) from a friend of mine. We had this rifle out last year for some rabbiting and we only managed to fire a few rounds from this as for no reason the rifle would go off when loaded !! Sometimes this rifle would really struggle to eject an unfired round but when fired it would eject no issues at all. I have done some research with this and it may be that the chamber has a build up of wax from the bullets so i will give this a good clean. Last night i got the action out of the stock and again from some research it seems the trigger has been lightened using the screw. I believe if you unscrew the screw so it touches the large cap screw holding the trigger assembly onto the action, you have lightened the trigger to its lightest setting. Does anyone know if this has been unscrewed too much, could this account for the rifle going off randomly ? I have tried the good old bump test when cocked but never seems to go off when i have tried. Any help appreciated lads Craig
