Personally I like the AR platform, as others have said the S&W is hard to beat value wise, reliable and OK accuracy for their intended purpose. After the demise of Mr Bradley I had a rifle built but Keystone Accuracy in the US who also cuts the chamber and extractor slots into the barrel, I free issued a 2 groove Benchmark blank to him as I wanted a bit more weight up front to balance the (heavy) Magoul stock. Very reliable and accurate rifle 50m results with various ammo types, shot in a cadence not BR style, feeds well using S&W magazines with the spaced pad, locks open on last round consistently.

The close focus can easy be sorted by simply adding a reduced diameter ‘hole’ iPod the objective lens, quite a few companies provide this item and at close distance does not effect the light gathering. re. your concern about 10 year warranty, going off at a tangent, I see this a lot re scopes as a make or break item in decisions. Admittedly it’s ‘nice’ but I do not see the same thing reflected ( no pun) in people decisions when buying a car at 30-40 times the price of a scope and also your life depends on it. 🤔🤷🏼‍♂️.

As a different approach, and the way I went to remove this potential problem, how about using and adjustable base? I installed an EraTac adjustable base which gives me an additional 70 moa in 10 moa steps over the scopes adjustment. This is in turn mounted on the 40 moa integral rail on the action. The EraTac is very repeatable in adjustments both up and down and not too bulky compared to say an Ivey micrometer adjustable mount . Just depend how serious you want to get? Brgds Terry

Looks like same bullet are the RWS LR specific offering (tail end design) and as you say same parent company as RWS which for UK means same issue re availability once the change over to Beretta’s UK distribution 🤷🏼‍♂️🙁

Easy enough to Dremel a ‘hole’ in the wind guard to allow the spout of a trickle to pass thru’ but I try to keep the powder cup central so would depend on the trickled you are using if it will reach? cannot see a reason not to use the wind guard T

JDT if you are looking for a long range 22rf scope both of those scopes listed will get you to 300 yards (with internal adjustments available of 31. & 19 mil respectively) but the Hawke will not do 500 and the Vortex would take all of its travel to reach 500 with the higher velocity 22rf ammo e.g. R100. - which is a big ask of any scope. Caveat I’m assuming you would also want to use your rifle at normal distances as well, say 50 yard/m etc. You can use the ret. to give you more distance though? Brgds T

As a general FYI , I spoke with Lapua and RWS at the IWA last week. Lapua’s ‘long range’ is basically the same concept as RWS’s R100. - same bullet just going faster than normal match ammo. RWS’s purpose designed long range ( new bullet) is freely available in Europe but will not be in UK until the changes due to Beretta’s purchase of RWS and swap of UK distributor is sorted. The SK long range does seem to be performing well for other, I’m currently using R100 for LR but must give the SK a try. T

No one in the UK that I’ve heard of. US folks are trying faster twists. There are some good videos on the Vudoo website specifically about their findings with twist rate and also coupled with barrel length - the old ‘you don’t need more than 16” on a 22rf’ goes out the window.

I’ve tried sets of O seals spaced in groups along a barrel, same concept as Limbsaver, but did not do enough to come to any conclusion 🤷🏼‍♂️

All sorts of things to think on here, as to what really makes a difference to accuracy (consistency 🤔) might be moot I.e. picking the fly that which promotes growth and vigour out of the pepper in gains. But one comment re null points, some BPCR shooters use a rest near the end of the barrel counter to common practice. I believe they put talc along the top of the barrel, tap it, see where the talc piles up ( I.e. a null pint) then put a bit of tape at this point as the ref. to rest on?

Alan, the inserts rifled barrel is 23” from breach to muzzle, as you say not supported at the muzzles of the rifle it is used in ( that’s a 32” ish barrel to give a 36” sight radius). There are supports spaced along the barrel that are a snug fit into the rifling, bit of effort to install. Thunk they are a foam but whole item is covered in glued heat shrink You have to note where the extractor knot h is as the whole assembly follows the rifling and rotates when put in. NiD, yes bit more magnification will help and you are looking at over 100 moa to get to 500 yards from a 50m zero. I put an adjustable base on my rifle that gives a repeatable Extra 70moa of elevation on top of the 20mm a rail. Scope is a 10-60 as my 22rf was built as a clone for my 6mm Dasher CF rifle.

It is a full length match barrel offset into a 45-70 case so the CF firing pin hits the RF rim. Made by Lee Shaver in the US where there are specific comps for BPCR’s in 22rf. Extraction is by the technical use of a small screwdriver 🤔😂 that target was obviously using rests front and back but none the less very please with its accuracy- that was with SK flat nose match ammo, again unsorted straight from the box.

Concur re the 22 and limits - to a degree. We’ve been ‘stuck’ with 1:16 twist since the horse and buggy / black powder origins of the 22rf. Think this is changing with folks trying faster twists etc. RWS coming out with a LR projectile and on the extreme home loading components with monolith bullets. The BSA International’s are nice rifles as are things like the 52D (&E) Winchester’s. On a different note I’ve a 22rf sub cal adapter for my 45-70 Sharps which with period iron sights shoots , must try it at longer distances . This is a 50m 10 shot.

Have found being constant with a 22rf to be more difficult than with a CF 🤷🏼‍♂️ Sorting the ammo your rifle likes makes a big difference. 1” 100 yard groups should be achievable . These are 100 yard comp cards , 5 x 10 round targets shot sequentially in fixed a time which includes unlimited sighters. Only 200 yard ‘target’ I have is a 20 round gong short at Orion with unsorted ammo. Do not have example targets for longer distances but you can work out the capabilities if you wish working back from target sizes and these scores as a indicator. But to me 500 yards is more ‘area aim’, trying to chase your last shot is a hiding to nowhere 🤦🏼‍♂️
