Drone Pro 15x Questions

OSOK

Recommended Posts

Having decided to get a Drone Pro I have a few questions that other users may have thoughts on .

The scope is going onto a fast 6mm with 67g of powder behind it but the rifle is heavy. I understand that the drone is okay with a fair bit of recoil upto certain 30 cals or is there anything else I need to consider ?

The rifle it's going on has a Bat action but from the rails I have the lowest moa is 30 moa . Where do you think that is going to push the reticle ( such as it would a normal scope ) from what you've found or do I order a new 0 moa rail ?

Does the scope dial in a predictable way in the field ?

You will need a 0 moa rail but even then you may need to shim the scope to centre the crosshair perfectly. Careful when tightening the mounts, theyre not very strong. Its not geared up for dialling, "clicks" are 2 cm so pretty coarse.

10x is meant to have .42moa clicks, 15x .3moa. Mines definitely closer to 10mm than 20mm clicks. But no, its not for dialling either way!

Someone mentioned the other week that the DP's 'ballistic' reticle is now on Strelock

Cheers

Yup, both 10 and 15x RF rets are on Strelok (Pro at least, dunno if free version has fewer rets?).

If your retical is in the top of screen, Do you pack the front of the Drone or the back?

Front

mine was -42 clicks packed it with some metric shim steel 35 brought it spot on middle

Interestingly 35 x 1.2 equals ,gives you an idea of what you'll need

I am using a drone on a .30.06 an have used it on a .300wsm so recoil won't be a problem for you. Also got one a 6mm Crusader. it will have to be 0 moa rail though i couldn't zero with 20 moa . though

I packed rear as mine was -42 low in the screen I packed between action and rail so 35 at the rear nothing at front then packed out between ,this was remmington and resolution rail

You may have to get a longer picatinny rail to allow the drone to come further back to give you the desired eye relief Greg!

Just got the 10x version and have been in contact with John Carr for help to mount it onto my rpa.

Thank you all for the replies , So new 0 moa rail and possible shim's needed . Is there a better aftermarket base / clamping mount availible if the unit's own is not that strong ?

Lee , If you used the shim I assume you didn't change your rail so is it a 20 moa ? My laymans logic of 35 thou = 20 moa over the length of your rail ?

Garry , Looking at the online Info It's saying you can move the unit 1.5 Inches back on the existing mount , Did you do this and still need a longer rail ?

PM sent Lee .

The rails I have would back up the 35 thou being equal ' ish ' to 20 moa as ;

65 moa has a difference of 118 thou end to end

50 moa is 89 thou

40 moa is 73 thou

30 moa is 55 thou

So that would make a 20 moa around the 36 thou ish .

Greg just check with Carl first with the recoil on your 270 necked down to 6mm, my - was telling me 30-06 or 270 is a no no for recoil bud.

I have run a Drone on .270 for a few years now with no probs. I am running another on a 6mm Crusader which is basically a 6mm ackley imp. Think the calibre restrictions Carl talks about is without moderators.

Andy / Matchking , My understanding is that a mod is the worst thing to stick on where these screens are concerned ....

Gun goes bang , bullet goes forward and gun then goes backwards .... mod then wants the gun to go forward so basically it's shaking the screen more .

By the time the bullet reaches the mod and then reduces the shooters felt recoil the damage has been done if not felt !

Hi All

got a drone 10x on my .17 and use it day and night for rabbiting, only problem was in zeroing and found best way was to take a shot at a large board of wood at 45m ,find the point of impact compared to aim point and move crosshairs over to the poi repeat until happy then do a quick recheck at 100m , needed a rail from alan rhone to convert the anschutz dovetail to piccatinny , very happy with the product .

cheers Richie

Could be right there Greg, I remember when mods first come on the scene we had a few Swarovski scopes come back with broken rets. I have run the Drone on a .300wsm as well with no probs. I may just be lucky, It would make a nice change lol.
