Deeredriver
I'm thinking of having a shuffle around of rifles. Does any one have or know if a .284 can be fed from a .308 based AI AT action/mags? Thanks
dannywayoflife
Doubt it aren't 284's usually based on a long action. I've seen a short action 284 on a forum somewhere but from memory it needed a fair bit of action work to get it running properly and the bullets were seated deep in the case to get them in the mag........ Hope your well J Danny
Chanonry
Yes it could, possibly. Have a look on accurate shooter, there is a guy with a 284 hunter shooting 162 gr bullets. AICS mags though. Looked viable if not really feasible across the whole range of bullet weights, but perhaps that is not the end of the world. You could single load heavier bullets but would have to take the bolt out to remove an unfired round. Bit of a faff but again possible. Easier with a folder. Hope your well J Danny Danny ,the 284win was designed in 1963 for the model 88 llever action, and semi, box mag rifle/carbine,the idea being to nearly replicate 270/3006 performance in a shorter action (the 284 was rebatted as the body just had to be fatter). Few wanted it, and the 308-even 243- options sold better. It's 1000y potential was realised much later, saving the very decent 284 from obsolescence. The funtioning in specific AI/AT mags is probably more complicated than just action length,of course! gbal
baldie
It will just go into an AICS mag with a 162 bullet. It won't pull a live round without bolt removal however. There is a bit more room in a AX/AW mag. Very limiting however, and the long action is the way to go. It would work with a .308 bolt in a long action AXMC and the .300 win mag magazine methinks. Thanks Dave.I was trying to avoid the long action route. Are the AT and AX .308 mags the same?
baldie
If you mean the double stack ones....yes. The AW is the same, but doesn't have the front locking lip. These will still work though.
