good afternoon,i have a cz 527 varmint 223rem,the problem i have now is that the bolt has become a lot stiffer the lift and open and is a bit tighter to close even when opened and closed with no rounds in the magazine or chamber.when the rifle is being fired /used every thing is fine except for the bolt feels tight.not sure what has happened.i have sigle loaded the rifle and perhaps i have damaged something by doing so.any thoughts about the rifle problem please.

Saw this in a 527 that came into my RFD recently, they pinned it down to the rear scope mount being far too tight! Sounded odd to me but as soon as they loosened it off everything was fine.

I'm having similar issues with mine, the bolt is less stiff if the rifles is upside down so I think it's down to something on the rails causing friction, will give it a clean and find out!

thank you for your reply, the rifle and bolt have been stripped down /cleaned and lightly greased and it makes no difference.having had a really good look at the bolt it looks as if the extractor claw/arm is catching .may try and buy a new arm and see if that cures the problem.the problem only started after i single fed some rounds that were longer than mag length.

That's your problem - Mauser extracors are designed to feed from the magazine, not single feed. They can struggle to ride over the rim of a cartridge, and bend, or worse, snap.

I wouldn't recommend bending it back, but a little fettling with a file and finishing off with fine wet and dry or emory cloth might be easier than trying to source an extractor for it?

My 527 never had an issue single feeding, but my big 7.92 Mauser wont have it. The extractors arent designed to bend so its poor practice even if they seem ok with it.

Very short magazines was my main complaint with my 527, it was lovely otherwise. Slick as could be. I put some thought into it and the single feed solution I came up with was a shaped block of wood to act as a 'sledge' that allowed the bolt to pick up the round as it would from a magazine, but with enough angle on it to allow a longer bullet to sit on the feed ramp.

Some of the 527 have a chamfer on the extractor claw face to enable it to ride over the rim of a cartridge so they will push feed. I think that as Grum 87 says Mausers aren't really designed for it and so if the facility is used a lot, long overall length cartridge and a lot of range use, the extractor will change shape. I think it is a use occasionally feature, not full time. The sledge idea seems good though.

Back the trigger adjustments off and see how that works.~Andrew
