Best Rimfire - straw poll

Recommended Posts

Depends on application.

For match target like Lightweight Sporting Rifle, The HW66 JAGD-Match.

For field type target and occasional hunting, the HW66 Production.

For hunting/vermin with the ability for the odd target competition, the Lithgow.

Just my personal opinion though mostly based on not liking to get wood stocks wet and muddy

For background, I used to own a JAGD Match and borrow a Lithgow for rabbiting as my ISSF match rifle is a little unsuitable.

As I've not owned any of those only handled then not possible to give any relevant input.

If you'd posted the question in such as way as 'for those who've used x,y,& z which do you feel is best and why?' Or 'which of these three?' Perhaps you'd get what you're after??

But asking for general input to a post titled 'Best rimfire - straw pole' sort of sets the scene for well - what's the best rimfire?

Terry, I assumed (mother of all cock ups !!) based on hands on experience.

I had the HW66 JM in .17 HMR - Stunning. The Production is dinky and £530. The Lithgow is appealing

The usual NSRA rules for LSR specify a maximum all up wright of 4.5Kg, just looking up the Jagd-Match specs show a weight of 3.85Kg bare. 650g for a scope and mounts is doable, but may restrict your choice of scope. It probably wont allow use of a glove, whose weight is included in that budget, I would recommend using a glove if possible. That also assumes that the spec weight is accurate, from experience I would assume that the spec weight may be wildly inaccurate and weigh everything.

Definitely one of the HW66's- depending on which stock you prefer most I guess.

I haven't handled a 66 but own a HW60J which is basically the same thing and they are absolutely superb rifles! The two stage trigger is very very good, and the whole action is smooth and very well built.

The Lithgow I handled in a shop looked grewt, built like a tank, but didn't have the feel of refined German quality that my HW60J does, by a country mile! Which is a shame as they did look quiet appealing when I first heard about them.

Hw66 jagdmatch in bolt action. And Walter gsp carbine rifle in semi auto. I'm lucky to own the Walther and have owned the weihrauch. Both superb rifles.

(...reading instructions..)

...so that would explain why none of the posters here who have issues with their labradars are actually of the fair sex? :-)

Actually,it's a general theory...

Holds for zeroing,using Kestrels,Strelok,powder equivalence, moa rails,legal issues...and that's just this week,,,

"Mama MIa-it's an illiterate man's world". ........(or hobby.anyhow).

Probably much else...neuroscience can now identify male and female pattern brains (though not unique to each sex)

:-)

gbal

And yes, this gendering is way off topic,if you read the thread heading. It's 'rim fire' - not " neanderthal club"
