Although the rifle strips easily for cleaning, I cannot see a way of using a bore guide due to the metal protrusion attached to the breech face. Is this removable? Or should I be looking at removing the barrel from the action? At present it is very awkward, and the rod tends to catch on the breech face which gives me the willies every time I do it! NOW that is an attractive thought!! Don't use a bore guide. I've personally never used one on any rifle but I certainly haven't on my 15-22. I take your point MrC, my main problem is the awkwardness of getting the patch central on the jag tip when fiddling through the ejector point - perhaps I should just try and get a loop for the patch, but all the loops I have seen are steel, which might scratch the rifling? phaedra1106uk Posted June 5, 2017 Report Share Posted June 5, 2017 , my main problem is the awkwardness of getting the patch central on the jag tip when fiddling through the ejector point - perhaps I should just try and get a loop for the patch, Why are you going in through the ejector port? just pop out the rear pin, open it up, remove the T handle and bolt assembly and go straight in from the rear of the upper assembly. I usually pop out both pins and remove the upper entirely to clean everything (on the rare occasion it needs cleaning!) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
dave thorniley Posted June 6, 2017 Report Share Posted June 6, 2017 take it from me, my round count on my spike,s st22 is nearly 15 thousand, and my finnfire asnt been cleaned for years and years, except for the chamber and action the 22rf ammo is lubed so you don't have to clean a 22rf barrel, unlike a cf barrel which does. regards dave. Don't move it fiddle with it or anything else or you will get issues with jamming. the barrel only needs cleaning once in a while when accuracy starts to wander otherwise just keep the bolt and receiver clean ...
