Most effective moderator,within reason

Recommended Posts

Probably been done before,so apologies beforehand.

For a lot of my shooting,weight isn't a problem,but often noise is.

Within reason,is there an off the shelf moderator that is widely known to be effective at suppressing the crack that echoes around the hills. I hear reports(no pun intended)of mods that reduce the crack to more of a thud, which is find more acceptable. Thanks

Most mark one ear, human 'reports' are based on near muzzle noise, which all mods suppress to somewhat different efficiencies.

My experience is mostly with Vaimes T8s and my favourite,North Stars.

I don't think any can subdue the 'supersonic' crack that can be experienced down range, maybe around the hills (human ears should really not be there!).

It will be familiar to anyone who has done butts duty, even at 1000y with the fast bullets, and is indeed quite a sharp sound,no way dulled.I doubt if it could be located -ie where it was fired from ,just from the crack.Deersears might be better attuned....or they have just learned....run.....:-)

T8 will always take some beating, and when put on the scales! The wildcat evo is a good mod very well made and calibre specific baffles stacks are available, in my eyes probably one the best Mods iv tried, not the lightest but not as heavy as a T8, and at £200 very good value also

I have never seen any published objective tests of sound moderators available on the UK market (tests undertaken with normal industrial noise meters don't count, as readings of gunshots taken with these are inaccurate). And how many have tried a variety of models to get a 'Mk1 ear' comparison?

I suspect that many of the popular large steel moderators are much the same in performance, e.g BR Tuote T8, Ase Utra SL7, MAE T12 or OLC S-Type. I chose an SL7 when looking for a robust 'range moderator' and have been very happy with it.

+1

MAE /PES T12

I would say on a par with a T8 but better

as it's an over barrel the rifle feels more pointable and balanced

On top of that why are they classed as a gun???

You've got me there.

In NZ, they have the same status as a sling, ie totally unregulated. I see there are moves afoot in the US to dramatically reduce the admin hassles with suppressor ownership.
