CZ527 22 Hornet | 146 Yard Rabbit

Loving the CZ527 in 22 Hornet. Bought as a replacement for my HMR.

The Falcon Menace M18 scope I recieved last week seems to be a good investment and the DM80 mod continues to do the business.

I'm going to swap out the double set trigger unit for a single trigger and then I'll have the perfect little mid-range setup

'Double' set trigger? ..on a CZ 527??...how many actual triggers does your 527 have?....seen plenty with the 'single' set trigger, but none with double-set

Elliott,

Get yourself some of the H&N 45 grain plated round nose bullets and a Lee factory crimp. Superbly accurate and as cheap as decent .22LR

Cheers

If you do this Elliot and want to go halves on a job lot let me know, also no sign of that Combe raiser.

Will do!

Sorry Scott, haven't sent it yet. Will do it this week, I promise! Incidentally, still haven't had anything through from PayPal. The mounts are now sold and that payment came through tonight

I'll cancel the pending and re-try, let me know If you decide to go for the bullets, was considering hollow pointing them on a pillar drill but I don't think I could do it accurately and repeatedly plus I can get Winchester 45 gr HPs for £16/100 anyway!!

Hi I use 40g or my favourite 45g Speer with 13.5g lil gun with pistol primer. I have a 18" barrel on mine & can do 200m quite easy it's a great little round got rid of my .17hmr for reasons. I have used 35g v-max they are great but very explosive with same load of powder but really like the 45g Speer or 40g Speer.

Nice one fella. The .22 Hornet is a lovely little round. I too swapped my HMR for one going back right near the start of when I got my FAC. Best thing I ever did. The Hornet is so under rated these days and the CZ is probably the best rifle you could have bought in that calibre.

Best shot I ever pulled off with mine was a 250 yard head shot on a rabbit. That was with Lil-Gun and a 35gr V-Max. That rifle did everything with me from rats to a couple of humane dispatches on deer! It never let me down until I shot it out, and that took some doing!

I wouldn't bother HPing the H&N bullets. They expand fine:

The construction is a very soft lead bullet that has a thick copper plating forming, essentially a very thin jacket.

Thanks Clive, I must buy some of these to try, what speed are you getting with them out of interest?

Are you aware that the triggers are not a straight swap.

The double trigger is part of the bottom metal with a seperate sear on the action. I'm not sure if the pin holes in the action are the same or not.

If they are you need bottom metal and trigger if not it may be a non starter.

Great video, Clive! I'd love a thermal unit!

This is where I get mine from:

http://www.stopper.de/product_info.php/products_id/7088/product/h/n-bullets,-cal-22--.224,-45gr-hs-rn.html

Not sure of velocity yet, as I haven't got round to running them over the chrono.

Cheers

Finally managed to try the H&N bullets after getting my Lee Case Expanding Die through this week. Got to say, I'm quietly impressed. It was quite breezy too.

Didn't load any hotter than 10.5gr with H110 but the results speak for themselves

Nice. The description of these bullets reminds me that Nosler makes what they call "Shots" which are a very simple cup and core flat base bullet for the 22H weighing 34 grains. They are a HP bullet and all reports say that they are ridiculously accurate. I think they are $300 for 5000 bullets from one of the distributors. I may need to try them.~Andrew
