The first one that I recently sold was fantastic and I managed under 1/4" 3 shot groups with factory Hornady match ammo 168gr. So much so I thought the rifle might be a fluke. When a friend with a gun shop mentioned he had an ex demo T3X stainless CTR in 308 on the shelf and also had the same Hausken mod with it I decided to take it. Made a stock for it but like the other rifle used a bedding action to make the bedding. The rifle is made almost identical to the first one except I sprayed the barrelled action on this one with DuraCoat and cured in our oven. DuraCoat works very well on metal if prepped well and heat cured. When zeroing we had fluky 10mph AV wind from 2 o'clock that made grouping more difficult...car was also moving a bit due to the wind. One 3 shot group 10.2mm the other 10.7mm showed the rifle has potential and a better day will show she is probably identical to my first CTR. The ammo used was from the same box as I used with the first rifle. Hornady Match 168. I weighed the rifle with and without the attachments : Complete with Hausken JD224 moderator and 9-13 Harris: 12.3lbs 5.6kg Without mod and bipod : 10.7lbs 4.85kg CTR in E-Tac3 stock, no scope, no mounts, no bipod or mod. 7.8lbs 3.55kg E-Tac3 Stock bedded on it's own just under 35 Oz 980 grams The CTR seems to be a fantastic rifle out of the box. Ronin Posted December 6, 2016 Report Share Posted December 6, 2016 Just opened the box on the Etac 3 ordered a coupe of weeks ago Edi, the new texture coating is super and I think very useful for those using their rifles in all weather conditions. The T3's were a very good rifle to start with and the T3x a distinct improvement, married to the Etac 3 stock, I think this is the best all round combination for a rugged "do all" without massive expense of a "system" rifle Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

No. They have some physical improvements in the ejection port and shroud. An annoyance is the change to a different base-ring assembly. ejg223 Posted December 6, 2016 Author Report Share Posted December 6, 2016 Underneath the CTR Rail is as far as I know the original T3 dove tail rail. Most who tried to remove the CTR rail seemed to have run into problems as the screws seem to strip before loosening. I think the CTR is a fantastic rifle out of the box. They seem to be very consistent and I have not heard of a bad one. Of course one can upgrade to a better stock and if one wants to a better barrel. As is, the barrel very good and I have shot my old CTR out to 900m as well as taken a deer at 427m. Saying that my Lilja Barrelled T3 in the same stock did shoot a little better.... by better I mean a tendency to stay on target better when getting hot and achieving the odd group in the 0.1's. Another advantage of the CTR is that they have a very good mag system that although 10 shot does not stick out as far as a 10 shot AICS mag. edi Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Not sure about the accuracy of the T3x sporter as I could not get a 2 year old .243 T3 sporter bought new, to group consistently at all; once I managed to achieve an acceptable group, rather than an exceptional group, I left it alone. The .308 SV is a different beast altogether. I could waffle here and write an essay about the test I did to 'prove Tikka's claim' of 'out of the box accuracy' with the first 5 rounds from a cold bore with factory ammo and, the subsequent 24 handloads I put through it... Whether it was down to because the rifle was new; the stock configuration, (namely the stronger recoil lug); the calm weather conditions; being lucky with chosen development loadings; the ease of loading for the .308 as a caliber; the aid of a set-trigger; who knows? .. Most likely it was a combination of all of these things and more - but in a word; accuracy is stunning! ATB Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Metal Bolt Shroud - no more broken plastic "wings" Larger ejection port - obvious Ajustable palm swell inserts All combined make a great out of the box, factory rifle. ejg223 Posted December 10, 2016 Author Report Share Posted December 10, 2016 Up to now I have not had a problem with a ctr magazine. I think they are very well made. When I fit the CTR mags I have them in such a way that they need a little upward pressure for the catch to click in position. No rattle. The CTR does come with the same bolt handle as the tikka tactical. It's teflon coated then bolt knob itself is the ball design you can purchase from Sako. ejg223 Posted June 8, 2017 Author Report Share Posted June 8, 2017 At around ten shots the mod get's quite hot and if there is no wind it is almost game over with precision. I have porous cammo tape on the outside and pour water over the mod and soak the cloth to cool. I am not that impressed with the alu that Hausken use. After only maybe 50 rounds there quite clear erosion and wear especially on the outside of the baffles. Not sure what the lifespan will be. Saying that the Hausken is possibly the best mod in sound reduction vs weight but maybe not the best for the range. edi Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
