Teaser F Class Build

Recommended Posts

Care package arrived this morning - the heart for my new F Class rifle

A thing of beauty

Borden Rimrock BRMXD action - the first in the UK..

Stunning quality, no slop in the bolt at either end of travel, several new features over the standard Rimrock (which is a world class action to start with)

Oversize action diameter - increased strength and rigidity

Integral recoil lug

Machined steel trigger hanger

Vent holes within bolt body

Pinned SS Picatinny Rail

Anyway, enjoy

Looks unbelievably high quality.

Just one question why the need for vent holes in the bolt body?

Cheers, Andy

Can only guess that in the event of a head separation or primer failiure high pressure gas will flow into any pathway and as the bolt face / extractor and firing pin hole are natural escape holes a vent in the body of the bolt makes perfect sense.

Componants now coming together for the build, which will hopefully allow me to achieve a position in the GB Team again.

Had word that my GB Barrels tube is on route - thanks Dan

Should have a butt assembly on route from a Mik

Trigger will be a Bix n Andy unit

Stock is one I bought from Greg West in Virgina years ago, that ive had sitting waiting for this build...

So, I am on with the build in earnest now;

Thought id show a few more images as the build progresses

The stock is a cherry laminate F Class design, which I bought from from Greg West in the states about 15 years ago and have sitting waiting for that "special project"

It was originally inletted for a Barnard P action and I have had to open the action inlet a little to accomodate the slightly larger diameter BRXMD action.

In order to do this I had to make a temporary jig to hold the stock in the mill so it ran true along the centre line of the original inlet - my mill isnt a Bridgport and has limited bed travel...

The completed inlet

Action holes cut and inlet guide rods inserted - action sits nicely but requires a little more work....

Though is perfectly aligned in the stock:

Hi Edi

Action OD is 1.475 (37.4 mm) but ive opened the overall inlet to 1.5" to allow a thin strip of bedding material at the uppermost surface to the stock as a transition bettween the action and wood - obviously the substrate bedding will be a great deal thicker and incorprating pillars and an escutcheon for the forward action screw.

I hadn't considered the K1050, having looked at the spec, it is now on the list, along with the new Leopold, March FX and NF (though depends on funds) - I may settle for second hand NSX and see how I do returning from over 12 months absence from the league will be difficult as I hear there are plenty of "new contenders"

Ben, thanks, maybe i'll find someone to shoot it for me :)

There is a great deal more work to do on the stock fitting and finishing yet - very much a work in progress at the moment.

I've owned a K1050 MOAK (i.e. 1/8th clicks/MOA reticle) for about nine months now and I realy can't fault it. My dealer sourced mine from RUAG UK and the price to me was very good indeed.

I'd happily buy another.
