Gelston 1000yard BenchRest shoot – 17th April 2016

A relatively bright day, still rather chilly, but as per last month no rain and none forecast. A little bit more of a breeze than last time, but we’ve all experienced much worse.

A slightly reduced entry than last time, but we were all keen, and some repairs/upgrades to the targets, many thanks to the joiners amongst us all.

We were soon set up and ready to rock and roll, by about 10:30. Folks were getting on target very quickly, we have now got the hang of this spotting lark, thanks to all those who buddied up and those manning the spotting scopes.

A relay of four Light Guns first this time, the wind was already starting to build up as we shot and I found myself having to keep adjusting for more wind as the time went on. The groups were a bit bigger than last time, but still all were very respectable.

Next relay was up and this one was a mix of Light and Heavy Guns, my “Nearest the Bull” of 36mm went to Peter Cousar (30mm), then young Emily Lenton overtook us all with a stunning 17mm, which stood for the rest of the day.

Bruce Bell shot a cracking 7.677” group which would take the small group patch, well done, considering by now people were starting to get up to 8-10MOA of windage on.

Change the butts crew now, thanks for your efficient efforts, let’s see what the others can do.

A mixed bag now of Factory Sporters and Light Guns, but that wind was sure building, from the relative “comfort” of the Butt’s Truck we could see the shooters were going to be challenged.

The three Factory Sporters of David Leslie, Geoff McCluskey and David Rankin were having a good scrap and in the end it finished up in that order, well done to you all.

The battle for family bragging rights was back on again between Dad Darrell and Son Lewis, however this time it went to……. Darrell, by just ½”, well done to both of you.

All done!

Thanks again to the organisers everything ran smoothly and efficiently again.

Challenging would be one way of describing it Darrel. I don't think I've ever shot with 1.25 revolutions of the windage turret round before! Still, a good day as usual with good company.

The full results and league standings are with the relevant people and will be available when they have the opportunity to put them on this page and Northern Optics website.

Thanks to all that helped yesterday and to Bruce for the write up. Here's hoping for a nice warm, calm day for the next shoot. We deserve one for a change.

All the best.

Thanks again to everyone for a fantastic day! Not a big turn out but a joy to see some great shooting considering the ever increasing wind as the day went on.

Looking forward to the next shoot!
