Mission accomplished

Probably 5 years ago i decided that i needed to get in to longer range shooting , so my goal was have a semi custom rifle smithed to shoot accuratly out to 600 ish . After 17 month wait and almost a year trying to get it to shoot , i eventually realized this one ( my first custom work/rifle ) wasn't any good accuracy wise .

Que a full custom 20 practical by dasherman , ( not for 600 ! ) this is one sweet rifle that i still love and shoot out to 400 regularly . This replaced the failed attempt but wasn't the LR tool i needed .

So i decided to try a second or third hand M590 from offroad gary - a member here , it was a 22-250 . Had it sent to dasherman , the plan , new a5 tac sss stock , rebarrel 6mmBr. .104-freebore to suit 105 Amax . 8 twist pac-nor. .269 turn neck . Niel worked his magic again and i am very appreciative to him and wont use anyone else now . Alltho there are many great smiths out there ...

Well the main reason for this post is because iv finally got the perfect LR rifle and today have smatched my PB and have a huge smile . Before i tell about the shots today this 6mmBr is very accurate , even with virgin loads ( new unfired brass ) that i still have about 15 left . After the first few shots it wasn't anything to shout about , but once the barrel was broken in - its good . First time the other weekend @600 it went in to 2" with those virgin loads , but i was just getting real drop data !

So today went out about 1.00 for afternoon to try and bash some crows , ( was out last weekend but my range finder wasn't working great - Que a 1600b leica) now armed with the leica , i missed my first shot on a crow at about 350 ! But this normally happens with my .20 P ( from a clean bore! ) , so not disheartened , i waited in same spot and along came mr crow again - 360 yards dialled - settled then shot , i seen it move just as i fired but it still got him . Then noticed a fox legging it across field to left he stopped i ranged him @ 350 odd but he then dissapeared not to be seen again ! Next and last shot spotted a pair of crows right up top of the valley , had my old bushnell RF been in my hands this wouldn't of worked , leica said 598 yards and 9 degrees uphill , i know from gong testing 12.5 moa was required ( @600 and horizontal ) . I happened to have my cosine chart id made and made the calculation, 598 x 0.98 = 586 , so decided to allow and diall for 580 yards , id taken wind reading when id setup ( 5mph ) but it wouldn't read anything now it had gone virtually still , i was near some trees hedges etc so figured it would be affected around halfway to target , so decided to aim 'not dial' an inch to the left of the crows sillouette , leveled rifle , settled then shot , i seen the impact and it was perfect through the boiler room clean drop on the spot ! Must admit i didn't think id be shooting that far with it so soon , i thought it would take a month or two to build the confidence . What a great day , thanks for looking lads .

Great stuff! Really pleased for you! There's nothing like dropping long range crows.

Start writing your achievements down... I have! And by the sounds of your kit you'll be looking through them in a year or two thinking oh yeah I remember that one!

The black stuff better watch out from now on in your area!..

Thanks guys , if i miss with this or my 20 its from wind miscalculation , anyone can hold a wind meter up and get an accurate reading - as you guys know its along the flight path that its likely to be different , sometimes left and right , im still trying to learn this art , i pay attention to grass, trees , wool on fences , sometimes the target birds feathers kink up from a little gust when peeking thru scope ,

Al the bolt and shroud are from a chap called allen - from" Lumley Arms - Turvey Stalking ", do a search on that it should show web page , he imports them i think. There titanium and carbon fiber knob , they help complete the look of this m590 . I have a go on gongs soon @1K see how it goes - ringing steel is good fun and great practice . PC yes i remember seeing TSqueezers barnard and was drooling, as long as a good smith does the work the 6br is such a well behaved round , no wonder they rave so much about it on accurate shooters.com, take care- All the best .
