edchef
Hello Maybe I am being naive here but I wonder why quick load results and manufacturers data don't quite match I am certainly a quick load novice and wouldn't follow a suggested load blindly but some sometimes they seem miles apart - sometimes in the order of 2 or 3 grains of powder What is the recommended percentage of the maximum pressure shown that can safely be used - Is it safe to assume that ( all the criteria being correctly filled in, H2O volume etc. ) you can go up to 10 percent lower than the maximum or not? Do you just try and stick to below the purple and red zones - yellow being Ok What happens if you try a load that has say ,50% of the maximum pressure allowable? Should i just go back and read the manual properly? Hoping somebody can assist me Thanks Ed
CZ Varminter
Take a look at the Saami spec pressure for your cartridge. For example my .260 is rated for 60000. Where as some are smaller. I would not recommend going over pressure, if you find a load that works well below. Always start low and work up. But tbh there is very rarely an accuracy node that you can't find below max pressure. Different powders will also take up more space in a cartridge. You can take a look at the lists of different powders that it recommends. It will give you a list of all the max pressures and percentage of cartridge fill. If you send me the details of the cartridge I can have a look for you but I'm sure Gbal will be along shortly to set me straight on anything I have missed, which when talking about quick load you can easily, but he is a very knowledgable fella amongst others and will also put too his opinions. https://youtu.be/ox4t0zERiF0 https://youtu.be/8ppH7HHREWk See If these help also. Well worth a watch. All the best CZV
edchef
Hi CZV Thanks for your response - just watching those two videos have answered a few questions and given me a bit more confidence generally Am I correct in assuming that using low pressure loads may cause problems with cases not expanding properly (obturating?) and causing black streaks down he sides of cases - I guess this is just a case of trial and error - is there a lower recommended pressure? I will try and work a load out myself and get back to you to see what you think if that's OK? Thanks Again Ed
