Lamping scope

Hi guys , looking for some recommdations for best scope around for lamping ,spending around and up to £1200 ish any thoughts ,need good clarity and range. Cheers

There are no best scope for use with a lamp thewre are plenty that are not worth putting on a rifle.

my reccomendations are as follows-this is because i use them-zeiss- kahles -did use NF but the zeiss is way better.and just finished testing a nikko target master that i bought off Gunnery on here for the money i paid its a brilliant scope with a lamp only took it off the 6x47 today as the zeiss is going back on for a look tonight.

most scopes of european make will do for lamping and you dont need 32x power-any where from 6-12x is more than enough for gathering the light from a lamp.

your budget is a big one you should get a decent 2nd hand one and still have some money to buy more powder etc.

You need a good 8x56

 

Swarovski, Zeiss, Docter or S&B

 

No need for fancy scopes as you simply won't have time to mess around.

Hi thanks for your imput ,have got the new drone ,but looking for lamping scope for when out with mates not into nv ,needing a bit more mag have the s/b 8.56 just getting older eyes need a bit more U ph that's reason for more mag ?? Maybe something like meopta meostar 3 12 56. ?anyone using one cheers

Couldn't fault the zeiss conquest I was using, 6.5-20x50 and a 4.5-14x50 superb glass and duplex reticule.

Had a Schmidt and bender 3-12x50 classic also superb glass just found the a4 reticule covered to much of the target at range.

Mate uses a Kahles 3-12x56 again superb glass with the a7 reticule.

Hi mate,

Not having got round to getting a night vision yet I still do a heck of a lot of lamping. I like yourself started off with a 8x56 s&b, they are bomb proof scopes and the glass is crystal clear but your a bit limited with your range due go the low magnification. I thought a 2.5-10x56 s&b would give me a better view and shot a lot of stuff lamping with it and still do with the .204. But I wanted more so I managed to get a mint 6-24x56 Zeiss Diavari fl second hand for the budget you have. It is an awesome scope and I highly recommend it if you can find one second hand get it. For lamping the illuminated reticle 60 is perfect, not clustered with a fine red dot that easily dims up and down. The zoom, parallax and turrets are easy to use and the glass is the best out there. I nearly always shoot with it on 24x magnification, makes it a lot easier. Have tried the 8-32 NXS for lamping but the glass is not that good at night and the parallax is a pain in the arse to focus. Not looked through a Meopta so can't comment on that.

Not quite at the top end of your budget, however I sold a pair of Zeiss Duralyts and replaced them with Meopta MeoPro 6-18x50's. My only complaint is that they don't have illuminated rets. If the Meostars have that option they'd be well worth considering.

Most of the European glass scopes will do.

 

Personally I use Swarovski Z6's with BR ret's on my lamping rifles.

 

I tried out a tactical IOR last night under the lamp, both red and white. Impressive result's, the illumination was just about right although the ret was too cluttered for night use. It's well worth checking out there range if on a budget.

I'd say from all the years I've been lamping there still is no perfect scope for daytime - nighttime shooting there's always a compromise! Fixed power 7 or 8 times with 50mm upwards objective lens I've found to be the best under the lamp the higher you push the mag the more fussy the scope becomes under artificial light good European glass is great like Buckhurst I also use a zeiss victory 6-24x56 but it stays between 6-8 power when lamping anything much above that requires the lamp to be in the perfect position or you will get serious whiteout from the artificial light during good light in day time it's fill your boots I've never used a s&b but have used doctor, Swarovski,nightforce and zeiss all are good all have there limitations.

I also have old eyes and have almost given up lamping as I find it hard to positively ID a fox at 200 yards upwards. A good quality scope is nice but by no means essential as long as what you have holds zero. A used Ziess ( not Conquest) , Schmidt, Swaro should fit the bill. As others have said there is no need for high power, a wider field of view for rapid target acquisition is far more important. High mag in low light is more of hindrance when time to take a shot is usually limited to a few seconds. My favourite all round scope is a Ziess Dia Vari C, 3 x 9 x 36. Set at 7x it will easily handle anything up to 200 yards at night. If I was limited to only one scope that would be it. I also shoot a 50mm Swaros and a 50mm NSX, they are inferior in to the little Ziess in fading light situations such as when up a high seat at last light.

used to use a zeiss 4.5/14x44 mc plex,

 

for £500 I did not go wrong.

 

I have the same on my 6mmbr and on my second 20 tac, and I have a spare one in the cabinet. cracking glass and performance beyond its price.

I got a s&b pm2 its a great scope for lamping its 3-12x50 I cant fault it in the lamp or doing some range work , I wish it was a bit higher mag but apart from that its great

Go for a quality fixed power, ideally German Glass. 

Even a thick reticle is useable on foxes up to 300 yards. 

How often do you ever shoot over 300 yards at night?

NOT a thick ret,  they are hard work on a 300 yard daytime crow.     Yiou wont have time to be dialling it in at night when old charlie is watching you,  so you will need to aim off.   A light plex ret is fine,    McClouds at tain usually have a good selection of used Ziess, Swaro, S&B,kahles.    Nightforce while good in daytime and in a lamp in teh half light of late duck when sitting up a tree is not as good optically as the German glass.  I have had to used the side bars before now as the center dot had gone ( NP2DD)

The best you will ever  get for shooting foxes at night is a nf benchrest 8-32x56 with a np2dd ret 

I’ve had one 20+ year since they were like hens teeth in the uk . 

If you fancy putting yourself back 30 years buy a s&b 8x56 !
