The Gun Pimp
Remember a few months ago - we were discussing that popular subject - which is the best 6.5 cartridge? The 260Rem. 6.5x47 Lapua, 6.5x55 Swede, 6.5-284 etc. I think it was Baldie who suggested that the Diggle Fly Shoot might be an interesting proving ground. The Fly Shoot takes place on Sunday 2nd August at Diggle Ranges. Rules? Just come and enjoy yourself! Any rifle (max. 338 Lap mag.) any scope, any support. Course of fire - three 5-shot groups at 500 yards. Unlimited sighters but you shoot for group and score. Two classes - 'out of the box' factory and Custom. So, just turn up at Diggle around 9.30am (postcode OL3 5LB) bring some lunch, sun-cream and waterproofs and let's have some fun! Entry fee is a fiver plus Diggle's £15 range fee for non-members. All entry fees returned in cash prizes, plus 'small-group' patches.

Laurie
For those who don't know Diggle, here's a pic of the main range taken from the 800yd firing line on Sunday. The 'Fly Shoot' uses the 500 yard points, the stepped section behind and to the left of the nearest flagpole and the butts / targets are on the bottom section of the hill level with the top of the pole and to its right. It is of course always warm and sunny at Diggle, but the 400 yard covered FP can be used on the one day per year that it's inclement Incidentally, the three competitors in the pic are UKV members. Left to right: GaryW, Gunnery and Frank Reynolds (don't know his UKV username).

The Gun Pimp
I'll bet there with my son, do you have an age limit? He's 13. No age limit - in fact, we have a Young Rascals Shooting Academy for 8 - 12 year olds.

Laurie
Thanks for Frank's username Gary. My pic - PM me your email address and I'll send a high-res copy. Vince tells me I gotta shoot a 6.5 at the Fly. I'd better or he and Bruce L will find a way of giving me 15 misses. As I speak my 6.5X47L is having Reload Swiss RS62 powered ammo made for it to see if I can find a 'demon load' .... all right, a half-decent one. The deadline is the 600yd F match on 18th July to ensure it works at that sort of distance. Will see how my Stiller 6.5 Creedmoor performs too with the same bullets and powders. Happy days

baldie
My buddy will be there with the sako 6.5 Creedmoor we were testing today. It was producing tiny groups with A-max and Vhit 140 , no matter what OAL was. A very forgiving cartridge indeed. Without a doubt it will be my next 6.5. geek
I'll bet there with my son, do you have an age limit? He's 13. My son (nearly 12 years old) is a junior member (great value at £10) and he shot the McQueens last week.

The Gun Pimp
Paul, I think the 6.5 Creedmoor version of the Ruger PR will be very popular and will probably launch the 6.5CM into 'mainstream' shooting. Let's hope we have plenty of 6.5s and maybe a Creedmoor or two at the Diggle Fly Shoot on August 2nd (little reminder!)

The Ruger PR with a Sightron 8-32x56 could be a very popular combination A little off topic, but I would like to say how much we enjoyed the McQueens competition last week, in fact my favourite competition to date. geek
How about the 300 yds F Class this Sunday - an ideal opportunity to test your reloading skills! Unfortunately I am busy, family commitments - I will be at the reloading course on Saturday and I have asked Brian (Fox's) to put aside the reloading components you recommended. Swarovski1
6.5 06, its a great cartridge, mine shoots really well, I neck down once fired 270 norma brass at approximately 1/4 the price of 6.5x284 brass and is equally as good as as the 6.5x284.
