Tikka m595 Stainless. Question..

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I just found and purchased two, Tikka m595 in the Stainless/Syntetic variant. Unless the Police say otherwise. So everything is a bit up in the air for the next few weeks.

However, one is in 223 and the other 22-250. The 223 has maybe 200 rounds through it, the 22-250, 800 rounds.

I have looked for this action in the .378 & .480 boldface for quite a while.. and both happened to show up within days. They came with Sako optilocks on both, and just one mag each. Paid 520 each.

Now, after reading quite a while about these, I noticed somebody mentioning galling of stainless. Now, the m595 comes with stainless barrel, action and bolt in stainless. So now I am bit concerned about galling in this Tikka.

Is this a problem with these actions?

I've owned 2 M595 all weathers for approximately ten years and have had no issues. If the surface finish picks up a couple of spots of rust from having been out in the rain, I just give it a careful rub with scotchbrite.

Why would the Police say otherwise, you do have authority to purchase don't you? Or has money changed hands before you have your ticket, I think someone got into bother for doing that a while back

Akeld: I live in a different country :)

I made a deal with the seller. Then I apply to the Police.. if their system is not quick enough, meaning if my old, sold rifles are not listed as sold yet, I can't purchase a new one. Only allowed 6 hunting guns here..

So, applying now, just before the national holidays might make these purchases more complex then hoped. Hopefully their system is updated, meaning I have "room" for these two new rifles. Then the purchases is very trouble free!

Allright.. sounds like there is no problem with galling.

Now, what about bottom metal/magasine problems?

I am thinking about buying a bottom metal as a spare.. and two more mags.

Hi Northman,

I too have a Tikka 595 stainless. Personally I'd get the CDI Precision bottom metal because it's relatively cheap, is made very well and you can then use AICS mags, rather than the not so good and very expensive factory mags.

Any good 'smith can do the small amount of required milling on the underside of the action in order to accept the feedlips of the AICS mags. Once done, it'll feed like butter and is a much better proposition overall, IMHO.

Good luck!

My old M595 was a brilliant rifle smooth action with a crisp trigger.

I'd buy another m595 any day of the week if it was in the right calibre

Is the CDI bottom metal available in the UK?

Not sure if there's an 'official' UK distributor but I'm sure any gunsmith could order and fit you one if they're gonna do the fitting.

I actually got mine directly from the States last year - super quick and hassle free! Just ordered it from their online shop, arrived about 1 week later.

One thing to note is the bottom metal probably can't be fitted to the factory stock (well, the plastic stock that mine came with). Mine sits snugly in a Manners.

Cheers

I've had a lot of floor plates from CDI over the years but none recently. I just hope he hasn,t stopped shipping due to ITAR.

Remember that removing metal from a receiver will require a reproof of the gun.
