Loveshooting
Hi Guys. Quick question. The sound mod SAK on my 17HMR is getting past its best, dented, scratched difficult to clean. Its on my FAC with the HMR, can i go and buy another one ? or do i need to put in a variation, one for one type. Not asked my RFD yet for his views. Cheers
MrCetrizine
In theory you need a variation but if you phone Jackson Rifles they may be able to advise you better regarding SAK mods as they are the sole distributor and I've heard they support them really well. gbal
You can do what your FAC authorises you to do. If you are authorised to have (one) moderator (for 17hmr?) and you have one, which is the case, you cannot just get another. If you wish to replace your authorised (17) Mod,as you seem to wish to do,you will need some authority for it's replacement,or for another (second) moderator. Not all moderators need to be explicitly matched to serial numbered firearms. Ask your FLO-ultimately,what your authorisation on FAC permits is definitive (your RFD should agree as he is bound by FAC too.) You cannot possess two FAC moderators with authorisation for only one. As ever ,what I -or anyone else on here says- has no status legally-hence always ask your FLO-there is no reason to see a problem here, but do it right (the FLO way,or risk consequences). Offroad Gary
If the mod is on ticket as nvn/ n/a make the your rfd may take and destroy the old one and sell you a new one. The police need not be informed as nothing will have changed. Thats how it works down here, sometimes!
bewsh
I had a FAC authorised CF mod replaced under warranty shipped back to vendor, vendor shipped one direct to me - well known vendor, all cleared by police as that is "MY MOD" I have three identical air rifle, over the counted mods, one sits on my .22lr, should one get lost, dented scratched, stolen or destroyed I would buy another...... That is the common sense approach Unfortunately the legal way states that once the specific sound mod is on your cert it becomes a listed item exactly the same as your rifles. Therefore you should strictly be filling out a 1 for 1 variation. Not sure how they can enforce this with no serial numbers on most mods but there you go It seems that some FLO's are taking the common sense approach and are turning a blind eye to seeing the above happen
Fishnshoot
Depends on your rfd bud. Mine's is a level headed common sense type. And as been said, he'd take yours and sell you an new one due to no make/serial number.... But they ain't all like him. In theory(and practise) it shouldn't need any documentation due to it being on your ticket all ready, but ask. It's all you can do.

Thought not unless it were a blaser and carried a serial number on the barrel.
Breacher
Ok, I will preface this with the statement that I am not suggesting you do anything illegal but..................... Your Sak mod is on your FAC as nvn right ? You could buy another Sak FOR AN AIRGUN off ticket. Again NVN. You chop up the old Sak and start using the new Sak. Who would ever know. You still have a Sak nvn on your Fac.

gbal
When you have thought through all these variably dodgy suggestions, consider doing the right thing: Ask you FLO' s advice as to what to do,and replace the defunct mod with one rated for 17 HMR. You should then have peace of mind, that it's legal, and peace generally as it's quiet and won't disintegrate in use. uber simples gbal
Scotch_egg
Contact jackson rifles. They are the uk distributer for SAK. They may do an exchange programme like they do for the T8 range of mods.
