Bait bucket

Found this the other day while clearing one of the old barns, lightweight, portable, easy to top up, easy to hang on a fence for that heads up opportunity, vent holes to allow scent to waft about and juices to drip. I think its a feed bucket but hopefully someone from the equine community will confirm the correct name

Thats a good idea...for my baiting spots im going to use 110mm drainage / sewage pipe pushed in to the ground untill firm and then drill a series of holes about 10/12mm around the bottom just above the ground..you just drop your bait in to the pipe and away you go...if you make the pipe about a metre tall and fill it up the weight will push the resulting rotting goo out the holes and give old charlie some thing to lick at but not to eat...H.

edit...paddy hook does a mobile bait station which is really good...he might be along soon if any one is interested....

As Hugh says - I have a similar system which acts like a mini-pheasant feeder. You can stuff it with bait - roadkill is ideal; it'll take a reasonably-sized bunny, a couple of pigeons, or whatever. The best bit about it is that once it's full, you can carry it in your car with no fear of spilling blood and guts all over the place. You then take it to your desired location and pull a strip of duct tape away from the outlet so that all the goo can start to drip out. You can either stake it down or tie it to something like a fencepost - if you don't do that a badger will soon have the whole thing away!

Sounds great Paddy! And what sort of results do you get around them? Does it just concentrate them in an area or do you sit-out over them?

Kind regards,

Andrew

Personally, I like to situate one or two of them in various fields around the place, always where I can see them from gateways. That way I can drive around an area, and when I see a fox, dismount and go after it. I do find it also helps to throw a few handfuls of morsels around the 'bait feeder' as this helps to keep any visiting foxes in the area. I rarely sit out over bait though - instead, I tend to check out other areas and call back as and when it suits me.
