UKBRA League Round 2 – 2nd and 3rd May 2015

Saturday 100 Yards

Well we have a very mixed weekend for benchrest, Saturday saw some of the worst conditions any of us have seen for a long long while, with every single competitor shooting at least one or more groups larger than 0.5 inches at some point during the day.

It’s unusual that an agg of just 2 thou under 0.4” wins a league round, but today was just that day!

The wind was very strong and continually switching, which lead to some rather interesting “weather report” targets going on.

There were however some really good groups thrown in from time to time, the best going to Jim Marsden in HV with a stunning 0.200” and Stuart Benson in Sporter with an equally God-like 0.281” group.

Mike Marsh managed to post the 3rd best Agg of the day with his Sporter class rifle, showing that one a windy day those 105 grain bullets from a 6BR really do have a competitive edge over the smaller bullets.

OK, now for the results

Heavy Varmint

1. Bruce Lenton – 0.3976” (Average of 5 x 5 shot groups)

2. Jim Marsden – 0.4308”

3. Gary Wrighton – 0.4614”

Small Group – Jim Marsden – 0.200”

Sporter

2. Stuart Benson – 0.5820”

3. Andy Woolley – 0.5936”

Sunday 1000 Yards

Well overnight the wind had blown, the rain had fallen and when everyone woke up shooting didn’t seem like an altogether great idea, the Diggle Sub-Aqua club was more likely to have fun!

But……… The wind died down a bit, the sun came out (sort of!) and the rain stopped…… And we had a great day.

As usual, there was the customary UKBRA Butts banter, Les Prior should have his own TV channel.

There were some absolutely stunning groups today, Alan Seagrave with a bog standard Tikka shot a 4.763” in Factory Sporter, Jack Gibb shot a very respectable 4.803” in Light Gun and Richard Marshall in Heavy Gun with a very good 8.961” (10 shot) group.

In Heavy Gun they was a bit of a tussle, with Richard Marshall shooting a big 300WSM boomer and myself with the trusty 6BR at the other end of the scale…… Which one would be victorious, keep reading to find out, but I will tell you it went down to the wire!!

OK, now for the results
