Simon J
Just got back from week long spike camp in Assynt, Sutherland after red deer hinds. Check out Assynt Deer Stalking Highland on Facebook for some photos of the trip. It was a blast.

Simon J
Looks like a great trip, how was the stalking? Oddly I was thinking about this very trip last week Stalking was good. My partner for the week - Dave McC- and I had 6 apiece. The other two stalkers - both from Germany- got a few less between them. We moved out of camp on Wednesday and back to the lodge for 2 reasons - first there was too much snow for the argos to cope and second the deer were anyway lower down, so being based at the lodge made more sense. I had another day's hind stalking organised on neighbouring ground for the following week and added another 2 to my tally. All shot with 6.5x55 RWS 127 grain cone point ( KS) - only one needed a second shot, and that one penetrated the full length of the beast from chest to hind leg, where it broke the hind leg. Though while they were faster than the Federal Fusion 140 grains I'd used previously, the results on deer weren't noticeably better. Dave is writing an article for an Irish shooting magazine about it, so look out for it in a few months time.
