Grouse
Have a Sako 75 in 6.5x55ai in McMillan stock - very accurate rifle, but not used now as my 260 does it all. It still shoots very well, but the barrel must be on its way out, what's anybodies opinions on what to get it rebarreled into? Was thinking along the lines of a 7mm in some configuration? Trouble is the stock is a sporter style and if I was to get it rebarreled was thinking along the lines of a long heavy profile for wind bucking long range stuff. Or do I sell it as is and start with something new? Just thinking out loud as snowed in!
AckImp
What about .284" Winchester? Sporter style stock isn't a huge issue, it could be opened out for a heavier barrel or replaced with something like a GRS/Macmillan etc.
gbal
Rebarrel-any sensible 7mm-with premium barrel..£750? GRS inletted Sako stock £600? So what would £1350 get otherwise? (How much more do you put into any alternative.) A custom rig will be about that for the action alone...Do you want to be top competitive or just enjoy LR shooting? OR-you use the Sako action, and save the action cost on whatever else you build. or, of course, sell sako, start afresh(with ?£600?) Not an easy decision-but there are options.I've been pondering since the summer! How's the snow? gbal

Grouse
what makes you think this if it still shoots very well? Agree, think it's me convincing myself to go with a change, as the 260 does everything the swede ack did!

Offroad Gary
Whats your .260 like? I find people have rifles that are not much different to their other ones? Have it turned into something that will do a different job or sell and buy something else to fit your needs. Ive got 2 6.5's, both 47l's, but they carry different scopes, are different sizes and can do very different jobs. They both do their own job very, very well, but they are a compromise when doing the other rifles job. The trick is to know which one to reach for! Ronin
Consider a 284 Winchester or Shehane 7 x 57 or 275 Rigby 30-06 or 30-06 improved All worthy of consideration for a stalking ….extended range stalker

baldie
Considered a 7 x 64 Brenneke ? Ask Cumbrian 1 how his shoots.
Cumbrian 1
Considered a 7 x 64 Brenneke ? Ask Cumbrian 1 how his shoots. I use a 7x64 for shooting abroad, initially I had a CZ and I loved the calibre so much that I commissioned Dave to build one on his own action, it has a 26" barrel and a pse etac. As offroad Gary points out it is the end use that will determine the build, my 7x64 is pretty light even with a PM2 on top I had the rifle built purely for hunting in mountainous terrain abroad. I have used it for shooting roe on clear fell sites but it wouldn't be ideal for woodland stalking where the shots are under 50yds a short barrelled well balanced rifle lends itself to that type of hunting.
