LDC1982
Does anybody have any experience with Steiner binos? Are they any good? I'm looking at these STEINER T42R TACTICAL 10X42 BINOCULARS MODEL 6508 SUMR RETICLE I can't find them in the uk or a European online shop for them, as usual there on every US site. Does anyone have any other recommendations for binos with a ranging reticle?
LukeSoutherner
I bought a pair of Steiner Tactical 7x50 binoculars back in 2001. They really are brilliant. The massive downside to them is their weight, which is just over 1kg. And they're bulky. But the light transmission is very good, and I can often see more at dusk (and sometimes even when it is night) through them as opposed to the naked eye. Very good optical clarity. Another great feature is the independent focus for each eye which then means that they are focused from 20m to infinity. So, no having fiddle with one ocular ring, and then move the central focusing ring to sort out both lenses (if that makes sense!). Once you're focused, they are focused for life. Sent them back last year due to stiffening of the ocular rings, and they did a full service under the 25 year warranty. Can't argue with that. These guys were the people to whom I sent the binos, who then sent them on to Germany. I think that they are the UK importer. http://www.intro2020.co.uk Definitely recommended. Akeld
Intro2020 are really helpful and knowledgable, they are a good source of spares and unlike GMK will deal direct with the public

VarmLR
I've recently bought some new Steiner Skyhawe 3.0 8 x 42 binos and couldn't be happier. I compared them with Zeiss Terra, Vanguard Endeavours, Minox 8 x 42s, and Nikon Monarch 7's in 10 x 42. They bettered the lot. Incredible optical quality, resolution, good light gathering, colour rendition and contrast. They were the ONLY pair which didn't exhibit any obvious chromatic aberrations too. Good features and all for less than £300. They punch well above their weight. I can't recommend the less expensive models which are very run of the mill, but for shooting sports, the Steiner Skyhawke 3.0 or their better still Ranger Pro binos are absolutely fabulous and covered by a 10 year no quibble warranty. Made in Germany too, rather than China so quality control ought to be good.
