expanding ammo

nearly there

Recommended Posts

I'm not absolutely sure (someone correct me if I'm not) but I would have thought it would have to say "expanding ammunition" on your ticket for you to be able purchase expanding ammunition for deer dispatch??

Hi is true that if you have permisson for deer dispatch, that my ticket does not have to state expanding ammo as this is given already by the deer dispatch condition.i hope this makes sense.thanks

Doesn't sound right to me; expanding ammo will need to be on there.

I said to the flo that it should state expanding as per my old cert but she told me that new ho rules and regs no longer require this to be stated.i suspect this flo was very wrong but they were adement in what they were saying

It's you that the buck stops with!

Check with BASC/BDS if a member: any doubts still then:

Ask politely for your FLO s interpretation in writing and/or FLO covering letter with these new rules/regs.

From the Home Office's Guide on Firearms Licensing Law, Oct 2014. Seems pretty clear to me!

'Chief officers of police are empowered to impose conditions if they think that the circumstances of the individual case mean that the condition is necessary to ensure the effective operation of the firearms controls and to minimise the risk to public safety. Forces should note that those conditions relating to otherwise prohibited firearms and ammunition such as expanding ammunition are statutory. The chief officer does not have discretion to grant a certificate for such firearms and ammunition beyond the terms of the statutory exemptions for these items.'

Home Office Guide on Firearms Licensing Oct 2014

Exemptions

4.4 Section 10 of the 1997 Firearms Act amended section 5A(4) of the 1968 Act to exempt from the general prohibition of expanding ammunition people who use it for specific purposes. The exemption covers those people who use expanding ammunition for the:

i)lawful shooting of deer

ii) shooting of vermin or in the case of estate management, other wildlife (for more information see CH13)

iii) humane killing of animals

iv) shooting animals for the protection of other animals or humans.

4.5 Persons who wish to acquire expanding ammunition for any of these purposes must first satisfy the chief officer of police that they have 'good reason' to possess a firearm for any of the above.Once this 'good reason' requirement has been satisfied the shooter's firearm certificate (or visitor's permit) must be conditioned to include expanding ammunition and,for home loaders, the bullets for such ammunition. The condition should restrict the use of the bullets or ammunition to the precise purpose for which it is intended (see Chapter 3 and 4.7).These exemptions apply only to England, wales and Scotland,as Northern Ireland has their own legislation.

OK,guys,section 4.5 seems quite clear.

Seek confirmation that your FLO agrees with this guidline .
