Offroad Gary
Gents, looking to plan a quarry type shoot (or two) next year, all being well. What sort of targets-COF do you like/dislike on shoots of this type, also any other pointers/ideas you might have. site is large (180 acre) so targets could be quite a way off. jcampbellsmith
I enjoyed Tiff's Spring RRC. I'm trying to get myself set up on a spot just now where I can put a steel plate up at 300yds and gradually move it further out as I get the hang of it. My thinking is once I'm out to ranges where I can't see the bullet holes, I want the the instant feedback of hitting (or missing) the plate. So targets like steels, balloons etc that give instant feedback are good. I do also like to have a crack at the fly target too. Good luck with your shoot. Best regards JCS
Bangbangman
Glad to hear you might be organising a "non-competitive zeroing day", Gary! Good on ya. As for targets, variety and unusual challenges certainly rock my boat, as do reactive targets. Clay pigeon hostage stages, rapid stages, position changes, reloads, close to long range (on same stage), unknown distance (known target size)... Basically, stuff you don't get to do on a conventional range. Hope it flies. Where (approx) is it?
Gandy
I like the pairing / team element and the variety of targets suiting the different rifles parties have.
Ronin
Also like the "team element" type comp (as well as individual score. Reactive targetry as well as precision KYL, UKD, timed, stress induced etc etc etc..
jay666d
I'm with the people that like reactive targets! Gongs are great for hitting over and over, but if it fizzes bangs or pops, then that's even better! I mainly shoot gongs, but every now and again I like to set up eggs and larger fruit at greater distance! I tend not to shoot anything that will make a mess in the landowners field that's not bio degradable or easily picked up and taken home! :-)
terryh
Off G Any stage with a balance of shooting and thinking or 'action' , only one difficulty per stage i.e. Do not combine a deep thought item with an action one. KYL, multiple distances on the same stage to force holdovers/unders, UKD, movement such as simple barricade requiring prone/kneel/sit/stand/prone weak side, a target comprising of letters and the word to spell given as you lay down, you can be as imaginative as you like - just keep it crisp, (sufficient round count's alway appreciated ) Like the team concept, there is a sufficent pool of rifle types to allow a combination stage using say a pair shooting, one with a straight pull the other with the rifle? 22rf at long range as a side match, 22rf semi for a speed shoot (with movement) No Tiran discs please T

Offroad Gary
Keep it coming... My 2 dislikes on shoots that ive attended were. Targetry that fails, u bolts that cant take a strike. Ukd in bodmin weather, could hardly see the targets, let alone the splash. Waste of ammo. Can probably sort out both of them. Akeld
Shoot and no shoot targets together, ie two different coloured balloons tied together, penalty if you hit the wrong colour

tackb
I like the more practical stuff , fire and movement , multiple engagement distance , awkward field positions , that kind of stuff . I can sit and punch holes in paper whenever I like so anything like the MQC really gets my attention !

v-max
Hi I'm new to it all & just love blinking at distance etc. I'm quite lucky too as I have gongs at my house at 400yrd a big plate out at 500yrd. Funny I was just looking about the day at bits & got a bump to put a gong out at 1050m & a few more in the 800/700/600/500 & down to 400m but I don't have the gongs or much time but I plan too get some out. A mate has a life size fox in 3/4" steel so I need to get that & I have loads of rabbits too. I went to the SGA rifle shoot at Atholl & did well in my first year then just went down hill. I dos home rifle shoots on estates in the area up here with very mixed results due to silly errors.
Dustyman
Gaz try cap head bolts thro the gongs and seat belt straps to hang them on , they accept more hits before they break
