I was told, don't know how true it is, that the best bait for maggies is a bin bag with some rubbish spewing out of it Hide away and move very slowly as little as possible. Lol Thats what I was thinking. Ive got a rest on my wing mirror and a rear bag on my door so I can shoot very accurately from the drivers seat of my truck, a very comfortable hide with the added benefit of heating, radio and coffee. Its surprising what these birds will notice though, if I have the rifle in position its fine to move slowly into the shooting position, if I have to pull the rifle from the passenger seat onto the rest they are off. Just set up and wait would be my advice and if your really worried about concealment you could easily drape a camo net over the vehicle. My experience has been ringing the farmer and asking if I'm ok to have a day in a certain area then that's me sorted for the day. Pasty Posted November 7, 2014 Report Share Posted November 7, 2014 Crows are pretty straight forward if you get something on the ground they're interested in, as said already a rabbit carcass with a couple decoys near by will get them on the ground. A bit of field craft goes a long way, watch and learn where they will be coming from and set up accordingly. If you get that right your hide needn't be anything special as they'll be focused on the interest thats on the ground, especially if you're 100-200yrds from the decoy area. gaz6br Posted November 7, 2014 Report Share Posted November 7, 2014 Best day I had was with a shotgun, preditor intiser out, a fox draped over a log prop it's head and tail up and two crows on a magnet like there mobbing the fox. Stood in a deep ditch fully cammo with a cap on with net that covers hole face, 96 was taken that day and that's good for them. They have eyes like hawks. Try get near a nest sight for good results and don't move at all till the last second to take the shot Rifle 300 yards at least peg rabbits out, sit a dummy bird of pray in field ect ect but you won't get the numbers Drives them wild Gaz Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have a friend who is disabled and shoots his rifles on my ground. He sets up in a likely area and waits, last time out he had crows at 260 and 340 or a shade further. Early the next morning, if you prop the fox up as if he's stalking the crows stomp him. Murph Posted November 8, 2014 Report Share Posted November 8, 2014 Try a teddy bear or an owl decoy. The yellow eyes drive them mad!. Shot loads of them with this method with my air rifle. If you have any cattle feeders near you then they are a good place to ambush them. If you are close to them use a face veil and gloves and a camo net. They can spot movement very easily indeed.
