Sporting Services 'Nimrod' rifle

I was browsing on the Sporting Services new website recently and noticed the listing for their new 'Nimrod' rifle.

I noticed that the design is very similar to the Roedale Avenger. I emailed Graeme Clarke, but he was understandably coy, saying only that it is being made for them in Bavaria. I suspect that it is being made by one of the two firms that Roedale fell out with on their way to the Avenger II (that seems to happen a lot with that company!). Graeme also said that the price would be confirmed once he had sorted out exchange rates and delivery charges when the first ones are delivered next month.

I have been thinking about saving up for a custom 6.5x47 rifle for a while. I suspect that this will be pretty good value for the spec and Sporting Services always seem to have an excellent reputation. What do people think?

Ah! Worked it out myself with a bit of Google-fu. AS.H marked on the action in the picture above is Andreas Schuler. Looks very nice!

I think Andreas makes actions for a few people on the continent.

I recall seeing an article where one of his actions was put into an E-Tac stock and it showed some seriously good groups on test.

If Graham is using this as a base for how own venture then I think it will be a winner - its a strong action.

I had a serious look at this design a few years ago when it was used in the "avenger" action by a chap in Germany

I havent had a chance to shoot the Nimrod yet, but the initial impression is very good. The SPS shoots very well out of the box and once fitted in an AT stock with an upgraded trigger, it would be a good setup. I suppose it depends if you want a remington or a custom action.

Well just got back from a great days shooting at the tunnels at Bangor, totally impressed with the Nimrod. After running the barrel in I tried a few different powder loads and eventually settled on 155gn Smk, 44.8gr ramshot tac, rws cases with cci primer.
